Having read all posts to do with the Bar noise Let us all stop and rethink exactly what has been said.
It appears that most Bars do not have appropriate Licenses, most have some sort of entertainment, mainly because that is what the vaste majority of residents and holiday makers want, the Bars say the cost of Licenses and alterations to their property is prohibitive, why are License costs so expensive,I gather the License money goes to the Local Council, why dont the local council just charge what it costs to issue plus a small percentage on top, after all the fact the places are open and taking money surely can only be good for the area. Why are the costs of alterations so expensive,Do we really need all these alterations, are they really necessary,Less license fee and less alterations, equals less expense for bar owners, could easily mean more licenses applied for if the cost is realistic. In return all those Bars with a license must stop live music(i,e no mics or speakers)at a set time which must be strictly adhered to)possibly midnight or a little earlier seems to be the time most residents are happy with. All Bar Owners to monitor outside area for decibel level throughout the night.that is up to the council to set a realistic level.Any resident who lives close to a bar and who thinks the noise is too loud, would be allowed to go to the Bar and insist on a decibel check, which should be done immediately with the complainent present,if a bar owner refuses they should be reported to the police immediately(that should make sure the Bar owner complies with request)The bar owner to be responsible for unruly people leaving his bar late at night,if people are creating a disturbance the Bar owner should call the police for assistance.
Bars with a late license(allthree of them) to be responsible to adhere to current entertainment license requirements, albeit at a lower licence rate than they are at the moment, which are vastly inflated.but as most trouble seems to be around the 3am period,if possible a police presence should be present if possible.
The Council shoould make the bar owners aware on a monthly bases of complaints made and to which bars they are made against,If the same bars are having many complaints then the music license should be revoked for a set amount of time.
The Councillors and the the Mayor, should stop squabbling amonst themselves, and help people to live and let live.
This would not be a conrete list set in stone, but could be adjusted at some time.
I dont know if this would work or even be allowed to work, what i do know is if it carries on as it is now, someone at sometime is going to get hurt, because of the anger being shown all around us
