LA MARINA GOLF SOCIETY

 Alicante G,C, September 15th, 2011.... Yet another warm and sunny day greeted the large number of members who gathered at Alicante G.C. for the Mike Barber Memorial Trophy. 
 
 This was a team Texas Scramble which reflected Mike's favourite way of playing golf. It was good to be able to welcome back members from their summer breaks in the U.K. with more members to return in the coming weeks when the weather becomes a little cooler.
 
 Teams of four were drawn from the hat with much talk about which four were the 'dream team'. The usual 'what ifs' and 'if onlys' were discussed on the patio after the game but these had no affect on the result.. 
 
 It would be unfair not to mention that the course was undergoing a major maintenance programme which, whilst unsightly, will pay dividends in the months to come. Whether the fairway conditions affected scoring remains a debatable point  but two teams had to be separated by countback to declare a winner.

 Nearest the pin winners - Hole 6   – Mike Ingle, Hole 12 – Alan Slack, Hole 14 – John Milton

 May we remind members and their guests of our Bingo Quiz night to be held on Tuesday 27th September at the Sports & Social Centre, La  Marina. Our next competition is on Thursday September 29th, 2011 at El Plantio GC, first tee time 09.28a.m..
