There's a free magazine out every month, wittingly called "All Abroad" a clever play on words there.
I said a free magazine, because, let's face it, you'd be disappointed if you'd parted with some money for it.
You've probably read it on occasions, it's full of "advice" on what happens to your money when you die etc, the best places to eat, recipes wacky articles, adverts, Estate Agents (i'll come back to them later) and 50 jokes to make you smile ! I think they mean 50 jokes to make you smile, if you've been locked in a cell for 20 yrs with Ian Brady, Charles Manson and Russell Brand ! You might just be getting the feeling I wouldn't be bothered if I never read this magazine again.
Any way, i'll get to my point, on page 5 of this months fun edition, is an article by Alan Gandy all about La Marina. I'm not going to print the whole thing out, but i've got the feeling he doesn't like the area.
I've lived here for coming up to 11 yrs, it's not perfect by any means, we could do with a few palm trees strategically planted, some potholes in the roads repairing etc, but on the whole, I love it here.
He points out that to get here, you have to drive past a prostitute, yep, and billboards advertising Estate Agents, that's rich coming from a bloke who's magazine is full of Agents adverts ( i said i'd get back to it) and then just goes on and on, saying, "Imagine if someone took a fairly large chunk of some soulless and characterless (I know loads of characters here) British town, and dropped it in the sunshine, you're somewhere near the mark"
He goes on to say we're a large swathe of land covered in little boxes, supermarkets, retail units and schools ? I may be wrong but I thought the school was in San Fulgencio.
He does say he likes our beach but he's not a fan of great big housing estates, well pal, people need to live somewhere before going out to pick up your mag.
I'll finish by saying he likes Santa Pola where there is a 'McDonalds' (always a plus) his words ! So a man who prefers McDonalds to fine Spanish Tapas bars etc is definateley a person who knows what he's talking about !
