The village of El Canton is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of life on the Costas and offers an insight into the real Spain. It has a small church off the village square and 2 bars which provide traditional Spanish fare all day. The area is full of olive and almond groves and produces some great quality wines from the vineyards which can be purchased at the local bodega for less than 1 euro litre. Just a 5 minute drive takes you into the small market town of Alguena where there are more restaurants, banks, shops and a traditional Sunday market is held every week where you can purchase all the local produce and much, much more. This beautiful Spanish haven is ideal for cycling, walking, horse riding and provides the perfect setting for a relaxing holiday yet is only 40 minutes from the beautiful sandy beaches.
