Kennels in La Marina.

I know this will upset a lot of people and I know I am putting myself in the firing line, but Andy suggests we all donate one euro to this cause. What about donating a euro to cancer research, orphans, or the many other deserving charities. Why is this forum always about animals?

I complelty agree with you. My nan died of cancer and I was in the room when she died it was like 86 years of life, gone like that. I've given money to cancer research in the UK. For instance I donated a fiver when they had the charity footie match on tv last Sunday. So
So I hope everyone can spread it all around.

I agree Andie and Im sure people would donate not just their money ,but their time and skills to help construct some kennels.
Lets hope we see it happen one day

Carol G I think nearly all the charities in La marina get a mention on this forum. The only one who does not seem to get a mention is Debra. I think people are entitled to support who they think fit, the Charity closest to their own hearts. Why should we condemn anyone for what they believe in. Contrary to what anyone says on this forum I will support the Charity of MY choice. Why don't you let everyone else do the same. There now i have put myself in the firing line. Sorry but i stopped doing what i was told when I went out into the world and earn't my own living.

Please don't volunteer me in this proposal. I'll put humans well ahead of animals any day. I'm not an animal lover but neither am I an animal hater, I just have different priorities.
As the council is heavily in debt,I would consider lighting, pavement mending and similar far more important than animal welfare.

I also agree with Andi. Whist cancer research and all the other such organizations get donations from the UK nationally.......stray animals in this Urb is a local problem. Both my mother, and step mother died from cancer, and my husbands father too. I would still support the kennels issue !

It's good to hear an read everyone's comments. Let me all put this to you, I agree humans come before animals, but there are cancer centres there are research centres and so on where people can go to for advice or for general company I'm sure there are plenty of centres out there or In driving distance.
Where it comes to the kennels if you look at big towns and Urb they all have local council run kennels. All I'm saying this will become a future issue.

David, pardon me for asking the question but what do you suggest we do with all the abandoned dogs in the kennels? They are only there because of thoughtless people who have them on a whim and then don't want them or mistreat them. These animals don't ask to be born any more than children do.

Let me turn your question back on you and ask do you think that the council should deal with all the abused children, all the elderly and infirm that cannot cope, all the mentally ill that need 24/7 help and I could go on and on.
With limited funds and resources, difficult decisions have to be made and as I said before, animals in my opinion come below humans in the priority order.
I know that some will disagree with me and that's their view as is mine as stated above.
Obviously the animals cannot be allowed to roam uncontrolled so they need to be caught and then whatever needs to be done, gets done.
Tough, I know, but I've read everyone else's views on everything thing from bar in-fighting, selling and renting properties, smoking on the beaches et al. and now I thought that I'd have a turn.
With me or agin' me, I'm entitled to that.

I also agree with that comment. Let me just poor this out, EMAUS is a charity based all over Spain. They have children's homes up and down Spain, they have battered wife's shelters, baby units, homes for the elderly and to top it all of the Spanish government have cut the funding by upto 70%. So they rely on the the public to help.
Just a example a couple week ago EMAUS children's home didnt have the money to pay two careers that the government should of paid. That is why I asking the general public to help in this. As I know the council are skint and in debt. They could provide the land and I'm sure it would be to tere advantage to the council and public.

Like Andie said at the start the council already pay Cereco to deal with abandoned animals, so this would be a viable option if it would actually save money in the long run......IF. Only the council have the answers to that.

Yes I do think the council should be responsible for providing for these children and adults. It seems the more the brits try to help these people, the more the government cut their grants. The money people raise to help these causes should put the jam on the bread, not buy the bread. We have all only got so much disposable income and we cannot help everybody but, if the council decide to put up my house suma by, say 50 euros this year than I will pay up gladly to support these causes without a murmur. I know people who do not agree with me but I think our Suma is very low and if they made us pay more then they would have more money to do things with.

We would have no need for any kennels if we didn't have so many irresponsible dog owners. Dogs are the bain of so many peoples lives on this urbanisation; barking day and night and allowed to foul any area. I would willingly donate a euro on a regular basis to fund a dog warden to fine these people who allow their dogs to foul outdoor areas and bark incessantly. Make court cases public so these irresponsible dog owners are named and shamed. No way dog kennels should form part of any urbanisation.

I totally agree with you Andy I think it would be a good idea if the council set up their own kennels and in the long run it may even save them money,I would certainly give my time and my money to help these defensless animals and I feel it is a bit heartless to say lighting and pavements should come before the suffering of animals

I would just like to say the comment about the money should be spent on pavements and lighting really disgusts me. I am glad to say.As with all donations to any charity nobody forces anybody to give,you give to the charity of your choice so why some of these comments are on here I really dont know, there are plenty of caring people who would like to help animals that are suffering.We all realise that sadly there is only so much we can do.

You see the odds there offering on England to win te euros Trev. It's well worth a couple of quid.

As someone who pays his SUMA, I feel that I have a right to make comment about where I would prefer the council to spend my money and it's not on animal welfare. Both unlit streets and uneven and damaged pavements were just examples I gave of my medium priorities and I still hold that view.
However, that comment was attacked by some - reasonably as this is a forum - but ignored/bypassed my main objection was that humans come before animals and that there are plenty of ways lives can be improved before money is spent on extending animals lives. Of course I don't like what happens to animals and don't advocate animals suffering and that must be avoided but if it means taking a difficult decision, so be it.
I shall read the rest of this debate with interest but having made my views will no longer post on this topic.

I respect your right to make the comment that you made and I also have the right to my view point,I just feel it is a little sad when some one can put the state of paving and lighting before the suffering of animals.

I totally agree with you Trevor. What is a crack in the pavement to the life of a defenceless animal. I was brought up with animals and my father insisted that the animals had their food before we sat down to ours. Some people are very shallow. Yes, a barking dog can be a pain but, it is the owner who is to blame, not the animal.

Agreed ....my hubby has Alzheimers, he cannot walk or talk and I have looked after him for the last five years like this....Age Concern are the ONLY charity that have helped me...and they could do with a cash injection...!!! I love animals and have always had them I have 3 rescued cats at the mo...but I love my husband more.

What lovely sentiments from Annie - "I love my husband more". It's good to read you are getting the help you need, Annie. As much as we all agree that we wouldn't harm any animals, it's people we turn to when we need help.

Salty Dog You say there would be no need for dog kennels if there were no irresponsible dog owners. In an ideal world there would be no need for Emaus if all parents were responsible. We will never have an ideal world however much we try. All we can do is try an help those less fortunate than ourselves be they children or animals. But if you do not want to help any of these charities then that is your prerogative no-one is holding a gun to anyone's head.

If anyone walks around the grey area by that park where people walk there dogs, sure you would of all noticed a lill black dog wondering around or shall I say slightly limping. I don't know what the dog is so for now I will call it a Heinz 57.. He/she is a lill cute thing, it has been wondering the Urb now for weeks. This morning about 8am it was laying clasped and exhausted outside soterins / via vente. I stroked him/her and it's so friendly, I also found its collar in-bedded into its Kneck, I cut the collar of with my knife (legal knife).
Is there anyone out there that knows who owns this dog or knows where it comes from. There is no way I would ringthe useless council / police regarding this dog as it will end up at cereco and destroyed as that is the policie.
Are the any kennels out there that take charity dogs at a cut price. This dog would easily be re-homed once cleaned up and cared for.
Why can't the council allocate a peace of land for a damn animal shelter.

Andi have you taken the dog to the vets to see if it is chipped.

Well I was just walking to shop an again there it was exausted outside the via vente. Tried getting a collar on it but he ran off. I want to capture it and take it to vets.

Hi Andie, the little dog your talking about is always hanging around. He used to be around the same area about 3 years ago and then dissapeared, he came back again about 6-8 weeks ago.He has always had a funny leg. Anyway he has spanish owners and they live on Parque del tajo ( think thats how its spelt) the owners told their neighbour that he keeps getting out of the garden. But im sure they chuck him out more like. He's out all day every day and spends most of his time in the bar or on the terrace when we're open. We didnt feed him at first as we didnt want to encourage him to keep coming back, but in the end we took pity on him. Your right though he is a lovely little dog and would make a great pet for someone.

I hope that those who wish to have kennels set up think a little before a decision is taken on this. Dogs that are rescued are often unhappy little chappies having missed being loved for a while. So one unfortunate side effect is that they often do a lot of barking. Night time is when they seem to be most vocal. So it need a lot of thought were they were to be established.

That's very true, that's why anyone who has LEGAL kennels you will notice are pretty much on there own. No neighbours near by or houses. You have to meet a legal requirement, not that it's bothered anyone else setting up kennels. The way I look at it it keeps the stray anita off the streets and safe
