LAND GRAB

I hope you do not mind me asking but I am new to Spain and when up the U.K I heard that there was a lot of problems in the Catral area with land grab, and people were having there properties taken from them. Is this the case? I would love to live in the Catral area but these stories make us nervous

Hi Julie

I have lived in the Catral area for almost 5 years now. I am not a legal person so what I say is only from my experience and others I know and is obviously my opinion. Catral like many towns has had a few challenges over the last few years. This has been mainly due to the "goal posts being changed" many of us bought properties that we were assured were legal and many of them were. Now the people of Catral have got together and lots has been going on. I must say I do not know of anyone at all that has lost their property due to the problems, but I do know a good few that have sold beautiful properties to leave and return to the UK due to the economic climate. Things are now well on there way to being sorted, so slowly but surely it will all be over.
Catral is a beautiful town full of great people, architecture, restaurants, bars...etc etc..it is a real Spanish town! We have some of the most fantastic homes for sale here with views to rival anywhere in the world! So really in answer to your question.....scaremongers are always going to be around to enhance the truth.....it has cost some of us more money but with the new legalites bought in any new buyer has ALL the information before they go ahead. Banks at the moment are not too eager to give mortgages but if you are a cash buyer you can make an absolute killing and be safe now with what you buy. I hope this helps a bit, I am sure others will come on and tell you their opinions as well. As I said this is only my opinions. Good luck for the future.

HI
Firstly...really great to see this site for Catral.
I have lived here for years and its a lovely place to live. I have to agree with Kida, we have had some problems but now there is light at the end of the tunnel. I certainly would not let the past stop you from coming to Catral. I would say that it might be an idea to rent first and have a look around when you get here. If you have kiddies the schools here are great. I am sure some properties will be coming on here soon for you to look through...I know its early days for this site but I reckon its a winner!
