Fund Raising Event for Paul 'The Doc' Docherty

On Monday the 16th of September from 8pm until midnight we are organising a fundraising night in support of the family of Paul Docherty´Doc´. There will be music from the Caballeros, Alex Mas and DJ Richie Sparks. Tickets will be 10€ and include a three course menu. The venue is El Castillo (the old Los Pinchos on the way out of the Urbanisation). We are also holding an auction and raffle on the night. If anyone has anything that they would like to donate, please can you bring it into the Office for the Urbanisations on Calle Madrid. Tickets will be available from the office from Thursday.

It is just a pitty that there are only 100 tickets for the evening menu,...but people should realise that all are welcome to turn up for this worthwhile event to take part in the evenings entertainment...Paul "doc" Docherty has spent so much of his valuable time selflessly helping others regardless of his own personal circumstances, and it is now time that all on the urb should come together and help support the family of this guy who is nothing short of a hero in my mind and many others alike.
Come on La Marina !! please donate to this worthy cause as doc has helped so many other causes possibly without you even hearing a mention of his name,...an unsung living legend,...and i'm proud to have him as a friend !!

I have been asked to let you know that it will not be possible for people to just turn up on the night as the venue will not be able to handle more than have been booked in. There will be more shows in the near future. Thank you.

oh what an absolute shame,....I was informed that the tickets were only for the meal,....and that anybody who fancied popping in for a drink and a good night were more than welcome to help support the cause,..maybe some one could enlighten us on if others can turn up just to enjoy the night and raise some cash?

I have been to two previous Caballeros fund raising events and at each one the charity  volunteers left feelingly used and let down by these entertainers.  One charity ended up with nothing from the event and another with just a small percentage of what was raised due to 1000 Euros from the function being retained by the Caballeros without any explanation. My question is; are the entertainers at the El Castilla event supporting the Paul Docherty family by providing there services without a fee?

Firstly Don, there has NEVER been an occasion where the charity involved has NOT received funds from the Caballeros shows. The Caballeros always invite charities to do a raffle on the night of the shows and most are happy with the money that they raise. The show that you are talking about regarding the 1000 euros being withheld, which is an incorrect amount anyway, WAS NOT a Caballeros Show so please get your facts straight before starting rumours like this. The Caballeros will now ONLY work with one charity, dEBra Butterfly Foundation, as they are the only charity that always provide a letter thanking the Caballeros and stating the amount raised. They have been asked to do the show for the Paul Docherty fund as a favour to a friend and, NO, they are receiving nothing for doing this so will be out of pocket after paying travelling expenses - one of them has to travel from Los Alcazares which is not just round the corner.

It is comments like this that stop any artists from doing any shows for charity so please get your facts straight before posting incorrect information which could not only damage the reputation of the artist but also affect the amount raised by the charity!!!!!

Will the footie match still be on if it's raining?

Commented Josie in La Marina 2013-09-07 13:56:18 UTC

Yes the match will be on - even if it rains. It saves having to water the pitch beforehand and saves them having a shower afterwards!
Very light rain forecast from 12.00 - (0.3 mm)

Shame there wasn't many people there, the weather was great and the footie was interesting.

" interesting football"!
Now that is an interesting choice of review!
We need someone to write the match reports and you sound as though you would be a fantastic reporter! The job is yours but the pay is lousy. In fact it's worse than lousy but you would get in for free. Let me know when you wish to start or if anyone else is up for the job we could have a "write off"!

Mmmm very tempting - A couple of questions though -
Where do they keep the chairs?
Do I need to know anything about football?
Where is the bar?

Commented Josie in La Marina 2013-09-11 08:57:09 UTC

HI Josie, I will supply a chair.
Football - No one else knows about football!
The bar is just inside the ground. I'll buy the first.
First game is away at Benferri and the first home game is on 21st September. Kick off to be advised later.
Still waiting for more budding reporters though.

The Charity match which was played on Sunday raised nearly 400 euros which will be split three ways between AECC, Paul Docherty and the Football club. We would like to thank all the players from both teams who paid money to play and all the supporters who turned up on the day. We would like to say a special thanks to Sam, Paulhino and Richie Sparks (Big FM) for making this from a good day to a great day.
We could not make final arrangements for the game to go ahead due to political difficulties until less than two weeks beforehand. This did not leave a lot of time to get the players to sign on and to publicise the event. Also the weather the previous day was quite heavy rain and more was forecast for Sunday as well.
However a donation will be made to the two recipients as soon as possible and arrangements are in place to make this an annual event, hopefully in May or June each year. More details will be made available nearer the time.
