POSH CLUB

Just wondering if anybody on this forum has attended the new "posh club" grand opening,...and if so what were your thoughts of it?
I went down for a few hours Friday evening,...and I must say that I wasn't overly impressed with the place,....it all looked like it still needed to be finished off,...yes I understand the pools were not finished, but should be up and running by june,.....but everything looked really half arsed,...no locks on the toilet doors, no ladies and gent signs on entry to the toilets (until some one cellotaped a scrap of paper on each labelling them) ceiling tiles missing in the main bar area and no till/cash register to take customers money,..non of the staff had a clue what they were doing,...and this is only to name a few things,...Don't get me wrong!! I'm sure they will get there in the end, but why couldn't they have waited a little longer for the grand opening? It in no way made me want to part with 60€ a year membership and I was wondering if other people felt the same?.
It's great that new businesses are opening up and providing more entertainment thus giving more choice to the residents and holiday makers,...I just think they got it all wrong and should have waited a little while longer.

We were in a party of 12 last night and a fantastic time was had by all. Everything was up and running and we have our membership sorted.

Posh club, last night Saturday plenty of staff, loads of customers, good atmosphere and good group but a bit chilly outside yes it needs some finishing and the snagging touches attended to, but will the locals pay the membership / sign in fees in a large enough number once the place finds its feet and the local moaners get there teeth into the place time will tell if La Marina is ready for a "Private club" with membership or sign in entrance fees, after all everyone and there wife has done cheap food and drinks then still find it hard to make the business a viable concern time will tell

We spent 5 hours there on the opening afternoon, listening to Woody & the Peckers and enjoyed a free chicken paella and drinks at excellent prices and they reassured us that would be their prices. 1.70 euro a pink of lager, 1 euro for cans of pop 1 euro for a glass of wine, and I think bottles of water were 50 cents, there bottles of wine are 4 euros.

We then popped in yesterday (Sunday) tea-time for a couple of hours and listened to Dave & Co singing - great atmosphere again. We were told that reasonable priced meals will be available from this Thursday evening too.

So I do think a lot of La Marina residents will take advantage of the 60 euro a year membership (just over 1 euro a week), as there is going to be a variety of entertainment on through the week, they also have a sports bar where they will show live matches, motor racing, cricket, tennis etc, a pool table and they are also opening a cocktail bar.

I know when our family are here in July & August we will make use of the facilities and we wish them loads of luck.

The way I understood it, is that when the family come out you can sign them in for the day for 3€ each person, so if the family are drinkers I suppose it will pay to spend the 3€. But bear in mind there are plenty of cheap bars on here with music for nothing.

I went to the new club Friday night and to be fair there have made a great job, and give them time this will be a smashing club I don't know why some people always like to find bad points

Well Linda reed, I guess when you say we, you mean you and your partner120 euros, when your family come over, that's 3 euros each to be signed in and if you want to use the pool , that's 2.50 euros each for being a member, plus 5euros for each visitor, but you can only sign the same named person 3times in a year. Every facility has to be paid for, so why pay 60 euros each when you can get the same for free at the hillside for example, or any bar to watch any sport. Nuff said

Each to there own davieselz, we go to Hillside and the La Marina Sports Complex and will still go there to events, but neither of them serve pints of beer for 1.70, 1 euro a glass of wine, 1 euro for cans of pop, 50 cents for bottles of water, so if we used the venue just once a fortnight we would get our membership money back.

Plus they are going to have different events through-out the week too, daytimes and evenings.

I'm all up for bargains on the drinks,...but just wonder how much more drink driving this will cause on the urb,...some stupid idiots still drive the length and breadth of the urb just to find the cheapest drinks, and where the new club is situated you can guarantee the penny pinching drinkers will drive there so they can consume more and spend less, as the club is somewhat out the way......At the same time I wonder what effect these bargain drinks will have on the rest of the bars on the urb? I have already heard that the club is planning to start up their own Monday club (at the same time as the whistle) and one on a Wednesday (same time as the hogs head) in fact from what I've been told from a very reliable source, they are pretty much going to provide entertainment on all the days when other bars are providing entertainment,...to me this sounds very unfair,....don't get me wrong, I'm all up for competition,....but I do have to question some of Eugene's morals, I already know there are a few disgruntled people with regards to the above mentioned entertainment proposals.

You also have to make enough profit to pay for all this entertainment, and cheap drinks.

I don't know what school you went to, but they did not teach you maths, if you went every two weeks to get your fees back 120 euros at 1.70 euros a pint compared to say final whistle 2.20 a pint you save 50 cents or 1euro for both, don't think you could drink 120 pints in two weeks, water 50 cents most bars 70 or 80 cents. White swan weds and fri 1euro for two halves , Woodstock all drinks on a sat 1euro, but I feel I am wasting my breath. I believe that the membership figure as reached 250 or so, I think that speaks for itself, considering they need 1200 to operate

Not everyone wants cheap food and drink do they, but a nice venue with reasonable prices with no entrance fee with entertainment and charge fees etc for use of gym, pools, tennis courts etc maybe the way to go when the place finds its true customer base in a few months time.

It sounds like an up-market working men's club (but without the workers). I'm sure they will find their feet within a couple of months. How do visitors go on though? What if you had family visiting for two weeks a year, would you have to keep going to the bar to buy the cheaper drinks or would you be in a separate room and just wave at them occasionally (may be a plus point there).

As for the above posting (part of ) the drink drivers will do this where ever the place is as they don't see it as a danger to anyone !! and its only on the urb !!
