"All Abroad" One man's heaven is another man's hell, La Marina.

There's a free magazine out every month, wittingly called "All Abroad" a clever play on words there.
I said a free magazine, because, let's face it, you'd be disappointed if you'd parted with some money for it.
You've probably read it on occasions, it's full of "advice" on what happens to your money when you die etc, the best places to eat, recipes wacky articles, adverts, Estate Agents (i'll come back to them later) and 50 jokes to make you smile ! I think they mean 50 jokes to make you smile, if you've been locked in a cell for 20 yrs with Ian Brady, Charles Manson and Russell Brand ! You might just be getting the feeling I wouldn't be bothered if I never read this magazine again.
Any way, i'll get to my point, on page 5 of this months fun edition, is an article by Alan Gandy all about La Marina. I'm not going to print the whole thing out, but i've got the feeling he doesn't like the area.
I've lived here for coming up to 11 yrs, it's not perfect by any means, we could do with a few palm trees strategically planted, some potholes in the roads repairing etc, but on the whole, I love it here.
He points out that to get here, you have to drive past a prostitute, yep, and billboards advertising Estate Agents, that's rich coming from a bloke who's magazine is full of Agents adverts ( i said i'd get back to it) and then just goes on and on, saying, "Imagine if someone took a fairly large chunk of some soulless and characterless (I know loads of characters here) British town, and dropped it in the sunshine, you're somewhere near the mark"
He goes on to say we're a large swathe of land covered in little boxes, supermarkets, retail units and schools ? I may be wrong but I thought the school was in San Fulgencio.
He does say he likes our beach but he's not a fan of great big housing estates, well pal, people need to live somewhere before going out to pick up your mag.
I'll finish by saying he likes Santa Pola where there is a 'McDonalds' (always a plus) his words ! So a man who prefers McDonalds to fine Spanish Tapas bars etc is definateley a person who knows what he's talking about !

Big Ed
Had a quick browse through the internet copy of All Abroad. I don't think my thoughts on this freebie are much different from most other peoples who live in La Marina Urbs.
Firstly I must state that the Alan who wrote that piece, was not the Alan who is writing this piece.
Also the reporter (or whatever position he has ) should really do just a bit of work on his Geography of the area. He seems to of been in La Marina Urbs, But talks of La Marina, Two entirely different places, La Marina is a Peublo under the umbrella of Elche. La Marina Urbs is one of the largest Urbs in Europe and is part of San Fulgencio.
The Female Lady of the night actually sits in Elche, not San Fulgencio. The Urbanisation does not have any schools that I am aware of,
The La Marina Beach belongs to la Marina in Elche.
But we all know a freebie is a freebie, due to what advertising it can get , obviously it doesn't get much from around here.
We could do a competition and ask people to read the article (wont subject you to read the whole mag) and put comments on the errors this guy made about the area. You could also if you liked send them in an e-mail to Dave Bull (the supposed Editor
Or Real Radio Dave bull is the supposed owner I am sure he will be impressed

Thanks Alan,
I don't know where this guy lives, but I think the Mag is based in Gran Alacante, and if this Alan lives there, I don't see how he can call La Marina.

I think you will find that the person who writes and owns this magazine is Dave Bull who does operate out of Gran Alicant. He is also the same person who used to own and run Jungle Drums. If I remember correctly he can easly be found on facebook. But all in all over the years he has been responsible for producing a few of the better local magazines. But it seems rather biased against our La Marina. Thinks he should come down here sometime and find for himself how much more we have to offer than Gran Alicant!

2nd casa,
Several ways to try.
Google the owner and editor Dave Bull
Google Jungle Drums and find the links of the problems he had, when someone tried to nick the title Jungle Drums (this caused Dave Bull to start up All Abrroad)
Try googling Real Radio, dave Bull owns that so you may be able to find a link through that.
I googled Dave Bull and went through different links until finding the right one.
Have fun better than watching Coronation St. My Wife doesn't agree with my last comment.
