Has anyone installed a 1.4 or 1.45 metre satellite dish for English TV systems and what channels are being received on it please?

Hi, we have a 1.45 dish and get all free to air channels. Reception depends on receiver, weather conditions etc. some uk progs not available here like bbc 3 & 4. We are on the edge of the footprint. Get the best dish (Portuguese) and the best receiver and use Invercom LNB....it's the best reception! If you have a Sky box use it. It gives good reception. If you need any more info I have a friend who does tv systems, unfortunately he is in the uk at the present. If you are considering signing up with one of the multitude of people who offer Internet streaming for Sky, please don't.....you have a good chance of being ripped off! Always ask for references and CHECK them. This very issue ended up costing us €900.....money we couldn't afford down the drain.

I have been looking at satellite for my parents when they come over to stay.
I was told if I wanted all English channels I would need the 1.8 metre dish.
Maz could I ask what reception box is the best out here, and how much was your installation
for everything.
Also has i am here on short visits is there a package for TV or TV/Internet where your just billed on usage?

The Sky box is in my experience the best. Following that the Iberosat. The Iberosat should cost you €199. We are in Oasis and I find the 1.45 dish gives us what is available. The BBC 3 & 4 are too weak signals, I don't know if a 1.9 dish would bring them in because we are right on the edge of the footprint. A 1.9 Portugese dish with twin Invercom LNB should cost €499. You will probably need someone with a meter to line up the dish and tune the receiver......not sure of the cost for that. Please stay away from people in the market here showing you a full sky installation for around €399...plus €10 per month...you will be charged 399 for the receiver and installation, when in fact you can buy the GI receiver in the shops for €110 ! We were also charged €480 for a 1.45 dish....not 1.9 . On top of that we were charged another €80 for an external hard drive (160gb) in order to be able to record....only same channel as watching. I bought a 1tb hard drive for €60 ! €900 euros later we gave up......you will NOT get your money back. The signal comes through the internet and you have more scrambled than watchable !

As far as Internet and phone go, there are a lot of systems, but we are with Telecable and they are pretty flexible with the advantage of speaking English. Iwould suggest you go and see Fran at their office on the roundabout, Mon to Fri 4 - 6 pm to discuss your needs.
