These few moaners are just about to WIN.

ASL Member Founding Member Envoyer #14297 Réponses fermées

These are the thoughts from just one of the better known Bars here on the Urb. Going by the grapevine all seem to think the same. Problem is they are all a little too worried to say to much.
=============================================================================
Finally, summer is here and we all move outside, ****** lunch under the sun with an afternoon of music, Karaoke on ********* night as we sit under the star’s, ******** evening pitting your wits in the quiz by moonlight. Sounds like what we all moved to Spain for, but will the Spanish life come to an end for bars?
If our esteemed town council have their way then yes, our “outside” days are numbered. We have been told no live music under any circumstances; of course we can apply for special permission should we have an event such as a birthday etc., which is kind of them.
It seems that we must all live as Comatose Cabbages, just exist and whatever you do don’t enjoy yourself. They must be doing a good job looking at the number of comments on the different web forums slating the bars for music.
Ten years ago this Urbanisation was buzzing, the population was rising, facilities improving, bars and restaurants busy and full of atmosphere. San Fulgencio’s way of getting back to the good times is to listen to the cabbages and make life as hard as possible for bars. A dwindling population means lesser trade, taking away our Karaoke nights means a lesser trade, if it’s not hard enough to survive as it is. The ‘don’t enjoy yourself brigade’ also want this year’s summer fiesta cancelled as the noise infringes their human rights.
Of course the recession has had a major impact on trade so naturally to make it harder you ban music, but our council wants to go even further to hit the bars, they are plugging a loop hole that let’s bar owners operate on the opening licence of whoever owns the actual property. This practice is widespread, 30 of the 45 bars do not have the correct licence. Licences must now be in the name of the person operating the business, to get this licence you must pay San Fulgencio council 1,000€, pay 2,400€* for an electrical engineer’s report and pay 2,700€* for the electrical rewiring of the property if it’s not up to current spec. Interestingly, bars in the village which come under Elche only pay 25€ for a licence, where on earth do our council get 1,000€ from? So I need to pay 6,100€ just to continue what I have been doing for the last 9½ years. And when do they want this money, NOW! What planet do they live on? At this point in time, I do not know what the future holds.
The above said, I intend carrying on with ****** Lunch entertainment and Karaoke nights, we’ll just have to wait and see if the town hierarchy send their glorified messenger boy’s to twist the knife they have already stuck in.

One thing is positive they will never ever get re-elected. 1st problem though is they could of almost closed down La Marina by then. 2nd problem is they think that by stopping our outside entertainment it will help us all here, NOT TRUE. Councillors by the way are Elected to HELP NOT Hinder.
What a sad state of affairs for our La Marina that so many of us love so much?

Hope

So all the bars that will be holding events outside or party's this coming weekend the councillors will be stopping or, if no special permission is obtained they will get the police to close the events down.
Do you mind saying what bar you work for/run.

Hi Andi
I do not work for a Bar nor am I connected to any Bar. Just feel sad that the moaners have now got the upper hand.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-26

Could be a case that a few bars have spoilt it for the rest, I guess 2 and 3 am and later noisy bars was just to much for the locals living very close to the bars.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-26

Hope or whoever the bar owner is, the way I would look at it is that you have run an illegal bar for over 9 years and not had to pay the same fee's as some of the other bars have. This means that you have made more profit than them and had an easier time of it.
So you know have to pay over 6000 the same as the legal bars well thats life, you have saved a lot of money over the years and now its time to run your business correct. I hope you have insurance and some of the other things needed to run a business in Spain or do you feel you do not have to do this as well.
Some people think they are above the law leaving others to pick up the bill.
I for one hate what is going on with the bars and can see that things are going to have to change, but the law is the law and why should some bars get away with it while others have to pay, that makes for an unfair playing field.

I heard about this earlier this week but thought i would do the correct thing and wait for our Local Councillor to put exactly what is happening on his blog,I am surprised that nothing has appeared as yet,but I hope that he will consider it serious enough to put on his blog as soon as possible,so that the local people can see the true facts of what is about to become of la Marina.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-26

If the story is true, perhaps someone can explain why apiece of paper costs,40 times more in La Marina Urb than is costs in La Marina Village.
Without any sarky comment,I know San Fulgencio and Elche have different councils, where does the other 975 euros go to.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-26

Alan

Do you mind putting on the forum what you know then as Hope hasn't gone into much detail.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-26

I POSTED THIS JUST OVER A MONTH AGO It lead to this subject.
Was told last night that it seems that the driving force in the idea of checking all bar paperwork, is to bring in extra revenue. Apparently in some cases the bars paperwork is in the name of the person who owns the establishment and not the name of the person who is renting the premises . Where this is found to be the case they are being charged 1,000 euros to change over. If this was a bar down in La Marina Village that comes under Elche the charge to change is only 25.00 euros. This has to lead to the price of a pint going up?

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-26

Hi Andi,
I think that the letter Hope attaches to her comment is quite explanatory,I was told a meeting took place earlier in the week between bar owners and the council, this info.was through the La Marina jungle telegraph.
Unfortunately it is possible that what I was told is fairly accurate.
The downside of it appears to be that music in general will no longer be played in bars or restaurants in La Marina Urb.and even to open the doors on a bar will cost 1000 euros(come on be fair,a piece of paper)I am not saying that bars shouldnt have a license in the correct name, but the name Dick Turpin springs to mind.
So if this is carried through it must lead to the closure of bars and restaurants, which will never re open again.I have been given the names of bars and restaurants that are up for sale in La Marina, these will never be sold as going concerns and will eventually just close and be left just like many other units already are.
I enjoy living on La Marina, but have watched the whole area go downhill, since the new council took over,
Of course music will be allowed back in bars, but at a cost, and most bars will not be able to afford the cost,on the assumption that the council will sqeeze these bar owners dry.
The sad fact is the councillor for youth is also councillor for tourism(sorry pal but you have just helped kill off the tourism part of your job,so I gather your sixteen co-workers will insist you take a pay cut,(oh I thought not)

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

What is the motivating factor behind this. They will charge a €1000 euros for this paper work that elche charge. Just imagine no bars having any music or live entertainer, that will be one sad situation. Them what happens is everyone will want to sell there houses, no one will buy as its a dead area. I wonder what this place will be like within the nx 6 moths when Spain really implement there spending cuts. These things have to be fond but they also have to match it with growth. After the President of the IMFade her comment "I have more sympathy for the African kids than the people in Greece". Hold on you stupid fool it's the government and who have stole money, lined there back pockets why in power. I understand money is tight and so on but what give the PP- and te PIPN party the right to be earning between €2.200 and €2.900 a month.
I wasn't going to say this but I am now. When impact charity had there "be nice day" walk to help other charities, the councillor who took part was Paulino and his wife. Paulino is a good man. As everyone knows donations were being split for the needy in la marina and San fulgencion, something the new council kicked off. So why was it not one councillor who by the way earns a good amount of money, DID NOT sponsor him when the council new donations were going to be made to the needy of la marina and San Fulgencio. 16 members of a council that are more interested in making sure bars have no music or entertainment. For once in your lives do what the Spanish do and turn a blind eye.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

So that is the reason so many, bar owners are trying to sell up. It is a shame but I will not be pushed into having to sit inside in an Air Con Bar in the Summer months. I never came to Spain for that, nor did anyone else I am sure. When I go out it will have to be places further afield. I think that when friends are here they will think I am mad if on a lovely summer evening I take them to an inside venue. At least there are three or four at Quesada and a couple of places down in the Village that have outside entertainment plus of course a selection down in Torrevieja.
PS.
Tina are you preparing for the next elections here, read on this forum that you have the correct kind of background. That is if by then anything up here is worth saving.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

Looks like i will be busy here today,
Sunshine you have made a comment that is so true,I bet 99% of the people that read it,will agree wholeheartedly with you,but almost all of them will say,"yeah but their is nothing I can do about it"while we sit by and let the council bleed bars dry.To these people i say, when the bars are closed and other businesses close down, where are the council going to get their cash from, the answer is simple every person living on the Urb will pay,so shout now, dont wait almost three years to get rid of the rif raf whose plentiful wages we pay for one way and another.Make sure you shout loud and often,
Let this be a start, and we must start with backing the bar owners,we must let this council know they work for us,and one way and another
we pay there wages.
We put these people in a place of power,to work for San Fulgencio and the Urbs .not to use us

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

Oh dear! so we are not going to see the Jubilee celebrations or hear any music on our holiday next week? how sad, we have been lookng forward to our holiday so much.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

Well said Sunshine and Andi. The truth is they are just trampling all over the wishes of us who live here, plus the many who have holiday homes here. They should be called the Wrecking Mob. Do they have ZERO sence.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

Alan
Just a quick change of subject I also herd on the radio this morning that benidorm are 58 million euros in debt and they have to agree a fiscal budget by June, so far the council can't agree. So now it's beig talked about that they get rid of the council and let the valencian regional central government take controll

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

As yet nobody from the council has mentioned officially, what is about to happen, until they do ,I will believe nothing will change.
But on the other hand,I also think the council have found another way to make (or save)about 100,000 Euros would be to cancel the Jubilee party, the rock concert and the fiesta. At least that way they can pay themselves for the next three months or so.
Sorry if it seems I am P****d off, that is because i am.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

At last it appears people are shouting,if only by stating there disgust,on this Forum at this councils behaviour, lets have more of it,it is a first step.
To be fair some one somewhere must believe the council is right,so it is only fair that you should say your piece as well.
We know people on the council read this forum, and those that dont are told what is on it,This must be the place to start shouting.
LET US BACK THE BAR OWNERS,IN DOING SO WE HAVE THE CHANCE OF A FUTURE HERE
IF YOU LET THE COUNCIL STEAM ROLLER OVER THEM;IT WONT BE LONG BEFORE WE ARE THE NEXT IN LINE TO BE TAKEN TO THE SLAUGHTER BY THE COUNCIL

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

So we now have whinging and moaning bars, well sorry pay up and shut up, it they have been getting away with it for years. Remember the link posted on here a while back by Alice.

http://www.theleader.info/article/8219/music-or-no-music-the-debate-continues/

The bars had the law spelt out to then back in 2006, the old council made it crystal clear what was required if they wanted entertainment and now it they who whinge and moan about having to be legal.
I think that this Council is doing a lot for the bars, if they enforced the law and made the bars get the correct licences and the required soundproofing it would cost the bar owners a LOT more than a mere couple of thousand euros.
The Consum bars owners created a disturbance to their neighbours and they knew it, the Police have been called out at 2 and 3 am or later, sorry this is not what you expect in a residential area.
At the end of the day, the bar owners could have got together and agreed to keep the volume down, or they could have simply fitted noise limiters, but no, they just did as they pleased, so they only have themselves to blame.
Basically a case of a couple of bad apple spoiling it for everyone.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

Golfer perhaps you was in Abu Dhabi at the time,But I believe it was then stated that a compromise had been reached, between the bar owners and the council,it seemed all was going well until some one claimed to of seen a solictor about getting the fiesta stopped,Which started the ball rolling again, about the bars and the council and valencia admitted to being worried.
Dont forget that it was you who said have the fiesta in the marketplace and your words not mine"it is hundreds of metres away from the nearest bedroom"With your judgement of distance,I find it hard to believe much of what you say,Because i make the nearest bedroom from the market place about twenty metres.
In all you are just a nimby(not in my back yard)
But at least you did come on here and state your case,

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

I have just been reading jeff's comments on his blog and I must say I agree with him. All this trouble is being caused by petty jealousy's among bar owners. If La Marina turns bottoms up we will all suffer. I enjoy entertainment in a bar as do lots of other people. I do not visit a bar just to sit and drink, I can do that at home. So all you bar owners if you continue to denounce one another then you deserve to lose your incomes. If I was in a position where I was jealous of my neighbour, I would get off my backside and try to do better than him. Healthy competition is good for business, it keeps you on your toes. If you run a friendly bar you are half way there. Treat ALL your customers as if they are the most important people to walk through the door that day, keep a smile on your face, then go in the kitchen and KICK THE CAT.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

Competition is good for everyone, but only when its fair. If you have 3 bars paying all the fees that they should then they are spending more money on running costs than the others, so have to either work a lot harder and charge more for their drinks and food. If this is the case then they will lose business to the other bars that trade illegal, no wonder they are fighting back.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-27

Tina there are a lot of things in life that is unfair. If you stop and think about everyone of them it would drive you insane. If some bars are getting away with not being licensed correctly then it is up to the powers that be to sort it. No one will ever be satisfied with who is in charge. We can all sit back and say we can do a job better than them, its very easy to stand on the sidelines. I for one, don't envy them the job of Councillors in La Marina, or any other council. If you feel so strongly about things, as I suspect you do, stand up and be counted at the next elections, or have you been there, done that, got the T-shirt?

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-28

I noticed Tina you choose to ignore my statement, am I too close for comfort with my assumptions?

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

Not at all Adam I though I had made my intension clear that I would be standing at the next elections. As I have been there done that and own the T-shirt but am not passed it.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

As an independant or will you join a group of others to make a complete new party, with the aim of total control of San Fulgencio Council
,or are you thinking of perhaps joining one of the established parties

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

Tina

I know we all gots to have ambition in life but running for a councillor makes me laugh. Let me just point out a huge fact to you.... San Fulgencio is as spanish as you can get. The PP got not more than 150 votes on this urb. They took over 1000 in San Fulgencio if I'm correct. The PIPN took 207 on the urb and luck have it gained the most important seat. You say you have experience so what is that, don't say I can't tell you because them you will become like all councillors, just say what needs to be said for the time being.
Come 3 years from now Marine will be very dead. Over the past 90 days the Spanish market has lost 30% of its value. Spain is on a crash course with Greece and I can assure you Spain will be in a situation like Greece this time next year.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

I am happy that I am ably to make you laugh Andi, I hope that when or if I become a councilor I do not have to make you cry to much.
As for my experience, lets just say for the moment its more than is needed for a local post like this, and the years spent in Brussels gives me a good insight into different cultures.

As to what party I will be joining that is still to be decided but I have time on my side.
P.S I speak Spanish

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

Yeah I spent some time in Brussels to Tina. SHAPE. Should make sense to you if you know your way around Brussels.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

Tina and Andi
You have both been to Brussels.
Well surely I top the pair of you ,Because last Christmas I ate some

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

Alan.

I admire you for that. I f&&ing hate them.

As for Tina, if trying to become a councillor is your priority in life then go for it, please don't say you want to make a change, you never will.

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

You are right its hard to make change but fun trying. If I had less time on my hands then maybe I would not bother but I am too young to sit back and let the world decide everything for me.

I hate them as well

ASL Member Founding Member 2012-05-29

Well we three have something in common we dont eat brussels, sorry I said I did but I wanted to top you two who have both been to brussels.
