Mosquitos

I'm wondering if there has been any spraying this year as I can't remember ever seeing so many mosquitos around, also were the drains poisoned for the roaches as I've not seen them being done this year either?

I have not seen a single mosquito yet!

Commented Friendlyviking in La Marina 2015-06-17 05:26:26 UTC

Friendlyviking,
I haven't seen one yet, but I have felt a few and have the lumps to prove it. lol

Commented Alan in La Marina 2015-06-17 06:59:21 UTC

I've seen loads of mossies in the area around where the petrol station is on the forest road, La Marina urb, but other than that only seen a few and had a couple of bites so if it stays like this I will be very happy. I do cover myself in Agua De Colonia twice a day though and also take B1 tabs (which they don't like)

Commented Carol in La Marina 2015-06-17 07:17:01 UTC

"Water of Cologne" "Eau de Cologne" "Agua De Colonia" "Kölnisch Wasser" a well known product with various names in different languages but which means the same. It smells good but does it really help against mosquitoes? Or does it only please yourself and the people close to you?

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-17 14:50:56 UTC

reindeer - All I can say is that I feel that it helps me and yes it does smell nice. I think it's trial and error with most things. Mossies hate lemon, so yes I would say it does help and also, I take the B1 tabs - I won't say I don't ever get bitten because that's not true, but compared to years ago when I got bitten to death I am happy.

Commented Carol in La Marina 2015-06-17 17:06:26 UTC

Yes mosquitoes bite some persons more than others. But I think it would be a bit peculiar if men use Eau de Cologne to keep the mosquitoes away. But for you it must be ok. Keep you nearest happy and the mosquitoes unhappy!

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-17 17:37:13 UTC

It's only lemon in water - who cares if your a man or women if it could help you? Once you put it on you really can't smell it after a little while, but the mosquito's can.

Commented Carol in La Marina 2015-06-17 20:28:20 UTC

Only lemon in water?
From Wikipedia:
Eau de Cologne or simply cologne (German: Kölnisch Wasser, “Water of Cologne”) is a perfume originating from Cologne, Germany. Originally mixed by Italian-born Johann Maria Farina in 1709, it has since come to be a generic term for scented formulations in typical concentration of 2%–5% and also more depending upon its type essential oils or a blend of extracts, alcohol, and water. In a base of dilute ethanol (70%–90%), eau de cologne contains a mixture of citrus oils including oils of lemon, orange, tangerine, bergamot, lime, grapefruit and neroli. It can also contain oils of lavender, rosemary, thyme, petitgrain (orange leaf), jasmine, and tobacco.

Oh dear me Reindeer is it your only interest in life to make an a**e h**e out of yourself.
If the lady is happy to use her lemon and water mixture and feels that it is affective then what the hell is that of interest to yourself?
Leave her alone and try and get a life for yourself, preferably elsewhere.

Commented Friendlyviking in La Marina 2015-06-18 06:02:05 UTC

Thank you Friendlyviking. I have just started to read reindeer's last post and actually got bored, and just wonder why I even bother to come on to this forum these days.
I was just pointing out what helps me. Won't bother in future.

Commented Carol in La Marina 2015-06-18 06:39:46 UTC

Ah! Reindeer Keeper! Still haven't found the meaning of "pedantic""

Commented Norick in La Marina 2015-06-18 09:36:18 UTC

Norick,
If you ask someone you know maybe he or she can explain and tell you what the word "pedantic" means. I feel sorry for you if you go around and do not know.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-18 12:22:23 UTC

Friendlyviking, or should I call you Notsofriendlyviking (but that would be somewhat impolite but I could not resist) , you have obviously not a clue what "agua de colnia" is. One of the oldest perfumes in the world. And not so cheap. 80 - 100 Euro per litre. But if the lady Carol wants to use it twice a day against the mosquitoes it is up to her. I haven´t written anything about that. Good luck to her fight against the mosquitoes.
And Friendlyviking, I think you would be a bit angry or dissapointed if you had bought "Agua de Colonia" and you had got just plain water with lemon.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-18 12:47:22 UTC

I agree with Carol that the Agua Cologne does help to repel Mossies. I know many people male & Female who use this and swear by it. I also find that keeping a spray bottle of it in the fridge is a refreshing way to keep cool. Reindeer keeper we must be very lucky here in Spain because I buy this product for less than €3 in Consum not €80 - €100.

Commented Myra Davis in La Marina 2015-06-19 13:28:38 UTC

Myra Davis,
and it is the price for 1 litre? Not 50 ml or 100 ml? I would be very happy if I could get 1 litre for less than 3 Euro. That would be fantastic! I have only found this:

http://www.amazon.es/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1/277-3419807-7612333?__mk_es_ES=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=agua+de+colonia

Please feel free to critizise me if you like. But "Agua de Colonia" for less than 3 Euro for 1 litre sounds to cheap to be true.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-19 14:47:38 UTC

It is not 1 litre admittedly Reindeer keeper. I do not have a bottle here to check as I need to replenish my supplies. It is probably 300 ml. Perhaps you could take the time to pop over to Consum and look for youself? The facts are its called Agua De Colonia, it costs less than €3.00, it is sold in Consum and it keeps Mossies away. Simples.

Commented Myra Davis in La Marina 2015-06-19 14:56:57 UTC

I will and I will probly try it if it is so cheap and if the mosquitoes attack me.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-19 15:09:00 UTC

Stick a vodka in the lemon and water. Doesn't reduce the bites but who cares....

Commented chalkie in Quesada 2015-06-19 16:19:06 UTC

Mosquitoes only attack pedantic people.

Commented Norick in La Marina 2015-06-19 16:38:57 UTC

Chalkie, I'll drink to that.

Norick, How we all wish that was true. lol

Commented Alan in La Marina 2015-06-19 17:27:52 UTC

Norick,
I feel sorry for you. It can not be easy. Hope you find a place where you can hide from all mosquitoes. Good luck!

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-19 17:37:59 UTC

Oh dear, oh dear,
I feel sorry for Reindeer his or her life is limited to being a pathetic, pedantic Cretan.
He or she is tormenting his or her self.
Why not relax and enjoy yourself here in sunny Spain rather than vomiting your bile on our local population?

Commented Friendlyviking in La Marina 2015-06-19 20:16:11 UTC

Ask a perfectly reasonable question and it turns into an argument. Maybe there was no spraying as the mosquitoes and cockroaches are all Gods creatures and he thought they deserved a year off.

Commented chalkie in Quesada 2015-06-19 20:41:20 UTC

Friendly Viking,
as friendly as your name name will make us believe you are.

I have been criticised for many things. For my comments, serious and not so serious, and for my opinions.

That is ok. That is something I accept. That is something you have to be prepared for.

But I have never called any of my opponents for being crazy or called them f-words or any other letter.

I have commented on many things. Maybe not always in a serious way. But once again I have never tried to insult any person by calling him or her something or suggesting them not to be normal.

I find it abnormal and not a polite way of discussing. And I am not going to start now.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-19 20:47:20 UTC

Reindeer,
Good for you!

Commented Friendlyviking in La Marina 2015-06-20 05:48:27 UTC

The Agua de Colonia bottle that Myra is talking about can be purchased in many of the supermarkets here and it is 750ml
and, as Myra says, the cost is between 2 - 3 euros (can't remember exact price).

Commented Carol in La Marina 2015-06-20 07:08:45 UTC

Thank you Carol for your info about where you can find Agua de Colonia. And the size of the bottle. 0,75 litre!
Perfume in a 0,75 litre bottle for 2 - 3 Euro must be a bargain. I will certainly look for it next time I visit Consume. Such a big bottle can´t be difficult to find in the shop.
Many thanks!

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-20 10:31:01 UTC

I said 750ml NOT 0,75 litre!
Just for your info they have it on Special Offier in Supa Value this morning. I think it was 2.79 euros or similar - under 3 euros anyway

Commented Carol in La Marina 2015-06-20 10:46:12 UTC

Dear Carol,
750 ml and 0,75 litre is the same.
1 litre is 1000 ml so 750 ml is the same as 0,75 litre. Or 75 cl. As normal wine bottle.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-20 11:17:49 UTC

Reindeer Keeper. Rather than sitting watching this thread and jumping on your keyboard to critisize and correct other members perhaps you would be better advised to pop along to Consum to buy the aforementioned product before it sells out. As when I was in Consum this morning it was flying off the shelves. It appears that this thread has publicised the benefits of Agua De Colonia.

Commented Myra Davis in La Marina 2015-06-20 11:22:15 UTC

Myra Davis,
maybe you know the size of the bottle? According to Carol it isn´t 0,75 litre but it is 750 ml which is the same and that makes me a little bit confused. As 750 ml and 0,75 litre is the same. I do not have time today to visit Consum.
But maybe Consum should send a thank you for the advertisement.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-20 11:45:59 UTC

Reindeer Keeper. There We Are Then!

Commented Myra Davis in La Marina 2015-06-20 12:51:51 UTC

Kind of you! The size of the bottle will remain unknown.

Commented reindeer keeper in La Marina 2015-06-20 14:17:38 UTC

It's a bit bigger than a pint.
