La Marina Fiesta 2012

I wonder if any of the bars in and around the consum area would say how much extra income they get from the fiesta being on there door step.
I know the council need to find a suitable locatiOn but I feel for the bars out there that get ignored because of this.

Oh for goodness sake Andi, it is a couple of nights where a few local businesses will benefit and last year another bar not from the Consume area also benefited, as do all the local charities who have stalls there too.

Also, Jeff closed the street at the top of the urb last week for the Jubillee and all the businesses there benefited.

That's very true Linda. The point is, the grey area is completely overl looked by the councill, when it comes to trying to share the benefits by holding events.

In Guardamar the fiesta travels along their main street, in Almordi it takes place in the main square and no one complains about who benefits and who doesn't

The grey area will benefit from the people who do not want to go the fiesta.

What, just like they did last year, if my memorie is correct the grey area last year was derelict when the fiesta was on. Might be wrong but I don't think so.

Andi, do you mean it was very quiet whilst the Fiesta was on? obviously you was there, was there nobody to moan at? Ahhhh didums!! Why not join in the fun....when in Rome......

Just for the record Im not moaning, however Andie is correct that the greay area is very quiet when the fiesta is on. Personally we closed our bar every evening due to the lack of people.
Now we only open 2 nights a week anyway so it wont make any difference to us.
I've never heard any of the bar owners in the grey area complaining about the lack of custom during the fiesta, but of course we would all like a slice of the cake, we would be lying if we said otherwise.

Yes it is great news to know that the Fiesta is back on, but I do feel for other area's,

I will agree that t.he grey area is left out of La Marina Urb. Fiesta and concerts,and obviously has a downturn in trade when these shows appear in other parts of the Urb.
The question is what can the Council do to level the playing field.
Grant had an idea of a night market,unfortunately this was ruled out by the council.
I am sure the council are aware that the grey area is left out,perhaps the logistics of the area make it hard to find something that would work and be successful,but it would be great if we all thought about what we would like to see done for this area,so let us have a little think and perhaps one of us could come up with a solution,More importantly the owners of businesses in this area should give some input,they cant leave it to Nikki all the time,So come write a comment or two on this forum,As Del Boy would say "you now it makes sense"

i am not a business owner, but i do visit the area and bars etc often.
How about a commitee forming to arrange a carnival that passes through the area, business owners or individuals could be invited to hold small stalls to promote their special offers or properties to let etc, perhaps the local church, bus trip company, air-con or other domestic services, maybe a balloon race stall, i think people love a carnival.

Perhaps a local dance group, band or marshall arts etc or local school displaying their talents, then the parents/carers are likely to attend....even more business generated.

Maybe a push forward with that would be that all businesses actively involved would have their name and logo on flyers, posters, reiterating "Please support your local businesses that made this fun day possible"

Yes homelessness is very sad, thats why unity and a proactive approach would deter any more sad cases.

Maybe there is a charity with contacts who could be encouraged to hold a small stall, raising money for their good work and the local area.

Giving up because a few dont agree will not ease the hard times for the businesses.

I think the fiesta is great, and I am not against the bars being able top up their bank balances from the extra custom, it would be nice to think it was swings and roundabouts as mikeyboy says, however it is not, the Grey area, also the bars by the international Supermarket along with the bars near the Police station will always be left out unless a neutral location can be found. Not simple I know, but the situation as it is now is just not fair.

Let me guess a neutral area,I know lets hold everything in the market area.BORING.
Also the bars around the police station,had Christmas and New Year events,or didnt you bother to go because it was too far away from you.I was trying to get something for the Grey Area,which has absolutely nothing,except the occasional Charity do on the inside of the bars .

Maybe this rock concert by the grey area will help the passing trade for they grey area or, is there going to be a private bar / refreshments tent there.

I did read of one,although at first I thought it was a bar in the consume 2 area,but was later told it was a bar on the strip that had the concession

I always see the grey area of as a restaurantier place to go now compared to years ago. I’d never go there for a night out or a drink but would for a meal but then again I wouldn’t go to the consume area for a nice meal but would for a night out. Like my partner advised the fiesta doesn’t normally start getting good till 11pm and will be in the grey area for a meal beforehand.

I have for a long time felt that the Grey Area is an uninviting place to visit. I'm NOT saying that the bars and restaurants are uninviting - just the general area.
It looks shabby from the outside and the walkways are uneven, broken and a variety of steps to be negotiated before you get to the central area.
I appreciate that money is tight at the moment, but could the bars not contribute to a make-over that would make the place more attractive and have a bit of a WOW factor.
I know that some bars/restaurants are busy every night and might not see any value in that idea but without making it somewhere with more ambiance, it would struggle to become an area that could hold any kind of sizable event.

yes I do agree with David, the grey area does need sprucing up a bit. It is very shabby it probably looked very nice a few years ago but it looks time warn. Perhaps the bar owners could help also maybe the council could push a bit of money in that area to brighten it up and it could look really nice and encourage more people to go there.

The inside area of the grey area is a really good place to go for a meal,nice restaurants,great staff at all of them,nice ambiance once you are in the sit down area,but the outside is a disgrace and downright dangerous,which must deter people from going there.
Unfortunately times are hard for most people,so I cannot see any improvement in the near future,it is a shame that nobody looked into the problem when times were better

It's very true what ou say about how dangerous it is around the outer side of the great area. I've many times confronted the old teenagers who use to write on the walls, set mini fires, climb on roofs ripping satellite dishes down. I'm glad the curry place opened on the end of the grey area as that now keeps them away along with the new bar that's opened inside the grey area.
A lot of people are coming out the wood work about the grey area now, so it wasn't just me am my imagination. As for the stupid rock concert that's taking place early next month it's one of the most ridiculous things this council have come up with. Firstly how can you spend €20.000 euros on a Free entry concert, and thinking about it the only people who might gain a extra few euros from this night will probably the local taxis. No bars no local busnniesses. Yes this is the tourisim thing but What are local business going to generate from this, nothing. The council would of been better of spending this €20.000 through out San Fulgencio.

Let me just edit that €20.000 euro amount to the amount expressed by the councillor, "around €18.000 euros".

€20.000 does seem quite a lot just for a concert, I wonder how much the council would get back if they had a €10 or €20 entrance charge, also maybe they could add a similar charge for the Fiesta, I know I would pay it willingly, especially if the money saved was spent on the urb and Oasis.
I guess in an ideal world the councils first port of call for spending money would be on the urb itself obviously Roads, Pavements and Verdes spring to mind, let’s face it would be nice if the urb was treated the same as to San Fulgencio, Block paving etc etc.
However it does look as though one of the residents on the original part of Calle Del Parque has found a solution to the pavement problems, I witnessed a couple of guys replacing some of the red and white paving slaps on the Verde side of the road, when I asked them what area they were going to next, they told me the house owner opposite was paying them to undertake the repairs.

20000 euros for a concert is a lot when the council are supposed to be skint. They never cease to suprise me how money can be found for things they want to do but not for things that need to be done like pavements and roads etc.

I wonder if we will ever find out what the true TOTAL entertainment spend for one year is, Fiesta, Concerts, Fireworks, etc, would it be worth putting all of this type of budget on hold for 12 months and would it be enough to bring the Urb & Oasis up to par with the village? Basically get San Fulgencio to pull it’s belt in a little, just try it for one year only ???
