Bringing cats to Spain

ASL Member Founding Member Bericht #15661 Reacties gesloten

Hi all,

My understanding is that my 2 cats need to be microchipped and have the rabies vaccination and they can then travel to Spain after 21 days. My vet seems to think that that also need a flu jab and flu booster. I have called defra and they said in regards to the flu jab that this would be down to the Spanish Embassy. I dont understand the confusion. Have any forum members recently transported pets to Spain and if so do you know the current requirements please. Many thanks, Myra

We have travelled to Spain a number of times with our cat and also took it all over Europe. The only country that ever checked our cat passport and paperwork is England and that is why if you travel across the channel you have to pay for the animals going to England but there is no charge coming the other way. That is of course if you are driving here with the cats yourselves. This was a couple of years ago but as far as I am aware nothing has changed. The ferry companies are usually a good source of information.

Thanks Tim,

I have now discovered that all my cats need is a microchip and rabies jab to get their pet passports. Think my vet was trying to up his fee by saying they needed flu jabs.
