SAN LUIS BOWLS CLUB

Well that’s another busy week blowing to a close but although we’ve all had some moans about the weather aren’t we all glad we’re here in sunny Spain & not back in icy UK - and somehow San Luis players have composed themselves and had another good week. Firstly to complete last Friday’s (18/01/13) results for the CBBA Southern league Div A: San Luis Lions away v Vistabella Lanzadores, pts 8-6, shots 99-110, winners of the battle: Colin Jackson, Joe Johnson & Mal Hughes 24-15. Pat Bird, Fred Armstrong & Colin Lindgren 19-13. Bob White, June & Keith Jones 18-14. John Haigh, Charlie Marigold & Phil Morrachan 19-17.

Saturday 19th saw the San Luis Blues play their first FED 4’s league match away at San Miguel. We knew we had to be very positive because any slips would be pounced on by the Harriers but the length of the green in a howling, swirling gale with the last few ends played in driving rain made it tough going for all of us, our two winning rinks were: Colin Jackson, Ann Holland, June & Keith Jones; 21-8 and John Haigh, Sheila Cammack, Colin Highland & Colin Lindgren; 18-11, pts 6-2, shots 56-38. On Sunday 20th San Luis Whites were in action at home v Vistabella Vikings but the raiders went home empty-handed as the Whites took all the points 8-0 shots 65-30. Winning Whites: Keith Philips, Bob Foulds, Peter Cox & Peter McEneaney16-8. Jean Parkes, Dave Blackie, Gina Streeter & Paul Parkes 22-12. Pam & Mike Lockett, Ray Robson & Charlie Marigold 27-10.

SABA matches, Monday 21st January: SL Klingons away v La Marina Explorers, 3 wins & 1 draw to snatch the shots 102-99, pts 9-5. Winning trips: Mal Broughton, Dane Howard & Gina Streeter 17-15. Darren Johnson, Eric Slater & Colin Highland 18-12. Shirley Withers Alan Rossiter & Graham Bird 19-11. Sylvia & Arthur France & Charlie Marigold 19-19.

SL Vulcans hosted the Horadada Condors and had a good morning’s bowling, winning on 5 rinks: pts 12-2, shots 130-72. Norma Mole, Kevin Hull & Brian Badger 23-12. Ron Cammack, Jean Hepehi & Sheila Cammack 19-16. Chris Phillips, Tony Campbell & Ian Rogers 19-7. Jean Parkes, Dave Blackie & Paul Parkes 22-9. Margaret Rogers, Scott Malden & John Haigh 38-11. Following onto the home green were the SL Trekkers v Vistabella Albatrosses but the Albatross was a good luck charm for the Trekkers, taking a clean sweep; points14-0, shots 126-68. Winners: Ray Pollock, Joan Dullaway & Keith Jones; 32-7. Audrey Ford, Sue Ross & Colin Potter; 18-10. Ann Holland, Bert Ewart & Colin Lindgren; 15-13. Blossom Cox, Tony Davies & Peter Bromley; 28-11. Frank Barclay, Mike Smith & Ken Dullaway 14-11. Peter Fuller, Bob Foulds & June Jones; 19-16.

On Wednesday 23rd January on a cold, windy morning- (now we know why it’s called Winter League) our Winter League & Berleen league teams were in action at home against our “friends” from the north; Benitachell. This time we won the battle, with 3 wins, + shots 65-56, pts 8-2. The winning rinks were: Mel Highland, John Haigh, Joe Johnson & Mal Hughes 26-9. Colin Jackson, Pam Lockett, Ray Pollock & Pat Coffey 13-12. Eric Slater, Mal Broughton, June & Keith Jones 16-15. The 2 Berleen teams again showed that they are up for a challenge; shots 65-17, pts 2, winners were Ann Holland, Fred Armstrong, Les Bedford & Colin Highland 32-12 and on lovely rink 7; Darren Johnson, Ron & Sheila Cammack, & Mike Lockett 33-5.

The club championships continued on Tuesday 22nd with the first round of the drawn 2 wood pairs, sponsored by Coys Rent A Car. Some interesting combinations & the 3 set format proved a challenge to many. Through to the next round are: /Ann Badger & Colin Lindgren v Sally Cordell & Sheila Cammack, /Margaret Morrison & Ray Robson v Sylvia France & Eric Slater, /Colin Jackson & Charlie Marigold v Fred Armstrong & Keith Jones,/ Les Bedford & Frank Barclay v Peter Cox & Darren Johnson, /June Jones & Phil Morrachan v Janet Gardner & Roy Cordell, /Chris Brooks & Joan Dullaway,/ Stewart Cattanach & Shirley Withers v Dane Howard & Colin Potter, ,Mike Smith & Maureen Bromley v Bob Foulds & Mike Lockett,/ John Haigh & Pam Lockett v Arthur France & Gina Streeter, /Sheila Cox & Paul Parke v Ann Holland & Colin Highland,/ Pat Coffey & Mel Highland v Jean Hepehi & Dave Blackie.

On Sunday 20th – chicken drive; chicken won by Frank with 25 shots, (apparently a new bowler, who’s going to sign him up?!!) & the egg-cup was won by Eric with 7 shots.

I’m sorry to say Jean Hepehi has had a fall resulting in her being taken to hospital with a broken arm, currently no more news. Because of the timing of today’s matches & the deadline for the paper I do not have access to the S. League results, so they will be carried over to next week’s report.
