in your capacity as a spanish citizen with a better understanding of the Spanish law maybe you would be kind enough to look at the comments/ problems on the forum that bars and restuarants in La Marina are having with regards to complaints from a minority group about music being played on the Urb. Can you offer any guidance as to how business owners and supportive residents could legitimately deal with these problems in order to hang on to their businesses and continue to grow the local economy?

Hi Debra,

I remember there used to be a similar problem many years ago in the area where I grew up, in Murcia. I was small and I remember both the neighbours and the bar owners negotiated something regarding time to play music and concerts. And the issue was finally over.

In my opinion, the best solution would be a good, respectful and clear communication to get a balanced agreement between the two parties. I hope that helps.

thank you for your comment. Sadly I think the main problem is that the complainants wont reveal themselves to the bar owners therefore a polite dialogue between all involved with the view to reaching a solution is not possible

they won 't reveal themselves but we all know who they are and where they live and they are all English, this is spain for gods sake go back to England if you don't like it and see what it's like near bars over there with all the fighting and stabbings

forgive me if I sound dense, As you know who they are have you had a chance to have a face to face discussion with the complainers on how to find a way forward or is that not possible. Im just thinking about what David recommended, is there any chance of that happening?

they would never admit it's them if you approached them, we never know which one it is as the 3 of them all live a couple of houses away from each other, and all within sight of the bar that had the music stopped saturday afternoon.

Hi as you know we run Rojos the bar that was stopped on Saturday. The problem is that we cant at the moment find out who reported us to the police and why. Our level of music was not loud at all, other bars play much much louder music. I agree if i knew who it was i would talk to them and maybe get an answer to the question. Fact is one bar advertised music and didnt really have any on, when the police came bacause someone had reported them, they were left a bit red faced. problem is some people just use the bit of power they have, and the police dont use any sence, they could stop this in a day.

I think that going on last years episode of 'bash the bar owners'.you should look and ask a few questions of the councilllors,who we put in power.
If I remember rightly it was they that said valencia had received over 70 complaints about noisy bars in La Marina and none from anywhere else in the valencia region (that was what our council were apparently told by valencia)they were also told that most of the complaints were bar versus bar.I at the time asked just how many complaints were made by different individuals,and how many were different bars.common sense told me that those figures were absolute rubbish,unless just a few people or bars were making multiple complaints.I was deafened by the silence, so unfortunately i believe you have more chance of winning first prize in euromillions than you have of getting a straight answer from this council

Yes i agree But at Rojos we are about as legal as we can get, we have put all our savings into this bar and do our very very best to make a living. BUT one fact you havnt got right,,,we dont have a Merc, Our car is on Spanish plates and Sheralyn has been here ten years. The car you are talking about belongs to the people who ran rhe bar before us, If your going to slag us off under a Alias, then please get your facts right.

Just to add, you cant get a licence for live music in La Marina, we have tried. Most bars take pot luck, So at least make coments about things you know things about. Its people like you who put bars out of business, then when you have nothing to go to youll moan again. We will never get a licence, but we would like to put the odd background guitarist etc for our customers.without offending people who live near by.

Grim Reaper are you aware that a "Cafe" is short for cafeteria and thus it would not be unreasonable to "open a kitchen and sell food" . Also it is not a case of "buying" the correct licence you have to reclassify yourself as a disco and fully soundproof the premises a bit much for two hours of easy listening don't you think?

Well thats the trouble with this site, im quite ok with telling people who we are and im sure most people know anyway. The site is great if used as it intended, but people like you use it as a escape to pick on people and busineses. Im always open to people bullying, but if your going to do it, do it to my face not hiding on here. Even if we did have enough money to buy a merc, what the hell has it got to do with you how we would register it, For your information the person who owner it was not a resident of Spain and used it in the UK as much as here. As you are probably aware this knock at bar owners happens each year,unfortunately having followed the bar arguement,People like`,grimreaper´appear each year,I think most regulat readers have sussed out these people,they always go by new names each year they only ever appear on thr bar debates and then suddenly almost all these names disappear,and never write on any other subject.Possibly these are all done by one or two people with several aliases,I cant work out why they do it,I dont particulary want to know who they are,as I am quite happy in the knowledge that they have no actual complaint and the more they do it,what little sympathy people may have for them soon vanishes because of their stupid points they make on this forum.
The thing to follow is that we have several local forums for this area,all of the others the so called bar noise is never mentioned.
I wish you the best of luck at Roho´s,and I know how annoying it must be for you,to have to answer morons like the grim reaper,but you can guarantee you have most of the residents of the Urb. backing you.where as the grimreaper,proberly has but a few it that.

Its interesting to note, that like MARIA, who was abusive one week. Then slagged off Rojos for no reason deleted her or his coments, GRIM REAPER who also made a personal remark against Rojos ALSO deleted their comment....Could this very rude person who wants to just abuse this site be the same person (male or female) Can the people who run this site tell me as if it happens again we will take some legal advice.

I'd be surprised if Steve could confirm if it is the same person. All you need to set up a user id on here is a separate email address which are easily available (Gmail, Hotmail & many others). Wifi connections in bars mean that there is no way you could trace the IP address to an individual. I think you need to treat it as a compliment as your obviously doing something right and you seem to get plenty of people backing you up afterwards. As an example, I'm based in quesada and so have not been to your establishment, but if I'm working in the area, I think I'd pop in just to see what its like.

Pleased to see that you agree with my comments,about bar noise moaners,Unfortunately Steve will not be able to prove who the people are (or person is).I also dont think that taking legal action against them would be of any use.
The complaint against you was the first of the annual idiocy,If the normal trend continues it will liven up just before the holidays in July,then the six different names will appear,so will the complaints to Valencia.Hopefully by now every normal person(including those in Valancia and the Local Council) will realise they are being conned into believing these complaints are true and just.
What is also true,Is that ant person who has a justified complaint and wishes to voice this complaint,will be treated as just another nutter trying to spoil things for everyone else.
Personally,the obvious thing for complainers to do is go to the bar and have a word with the owners,because I am sure that they would listen to the complaint,and act reasonably to help`that person.The only reason I think this doesnt happen is because no one has a justified complaint

Yes you are current its not possible for me to trace a member as they can move around but I will keep an eye on the email addresses used.

They must have given their details to the police,town hall,Valencia,you could get these details if you knew the right people.
would definately have a decibel/sound level meter behind the bar where everyone could see it.even with a large sign above,,you just need it in writing what the noise limits are,,there are loads of meters on Amazon ,,think some of the bands have them when setting up.,good luck
