La Marina Beach

ASL Member Founding Member отправить #18233 Ответы закрыты

I regularly walk La Marina beach, covering the whole length from El Pinet, right up to the Rio Segura outlet, and i'm ashamed to say, it's a dirty, scruffy mess ! Elche Council need to get their act in order, I don't think it's been "combed" for ages. I walked this morning from Rebollo to the river outlet and there's washed up seaweed, plastic bottles, litter and even dog mess! yes, and there's kids playing there. I counted 5 dogs on the beach as well, perhaps the "no perros" sign doesn't apply. Guardamar and La Mata beaches are combed every day, why not ours ??

That's awful, I really thought la marina was a nice place to holiday, but having just costed the changes in flights etc I am now thinking I will choose elsewhere, almost everyday there is a bad impression of the area, is it really that bad?
Worried

Sorry Patricia to put a downer on things, but don't let it worry you, they're bound to sweep the beach soon....I hope.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-09

Don't worry Patricia,It aint anywhere near as bad as us locals try to make it out to be.I think it is because we sometimes get bored enjoying ourselves every day,and don't want holiday makers coming in and taking some of our enjoyment,we just don't like sharing.(Ha Ha)
But seriously,a few people moan sometimes about La Marina, but its really a nice place to be,(I dare say it happens where you live as well)
La Marina Beach (isn't even part of La Marina, but comes under Elche)is a nice beach, quiet and almost back to nature, with sand dunes at the back of the beach and pine forests behind that, people in the U.K.would pay a fortune for a beach like that,in La Marina beach even the parkings free

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-09

Have you walked the beach lately Alan ? it's a disgrace ! I don't like knocking my "own" beach, but what are we supposed to do ? If nobody complains about the filth, the Council will think it's ok and not bother.
While i'm on one, the pier out to sea where the river runs into the sea, is also a disgrace, The fishermen just throw their rubbish into the rocks, there's plastic bottles, bags of rubbish etc, I honestly don't know why people can't take their rubbish home.
Sorry about moaning, but I can see it getting worse if nobody stands up.

As I did state earlier, that beach does not come under San Fulgencio, Like La Marina Pueblo,it comes under Elche,so complaining about it in the La Marina Urb section, and expecting the Council to do something about it is a non goer.Must admit I never walk the full lengh of the beach,I normally have a stroll between la marina and El Pinet ,

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-10

Alan, I also stated earlier, (2nd line in my first post) I know that La Marina beach comes under Elche jurisdiction, but surely by mentioning my disgust on here about the state of their beach, it may, just may be passed on by someone on here who could get in touch with Elche Council. I'm afraid I haven't got enough grasp of Spanish to contact them myself.
Already, we've had one lady on here saying she might change her mind about coming here, what about the hundreds and hundreds of people on the beach ? It can only be detrimental to La Marina's economy.
It's well documented about the "music Police" and now Police are hiding around corners, jumping out in front of motorists ! But that's another story.....anyone would think there's a plan to stop us enjoying ourselves.

Well stockport dave. It so happens that we were down on the beach last Sunday morning and I took a few videos between 09.30 and 11.30. If you look at the video showing the beach at the Hostal Galicia end you can still see the tractor wheel marks in the sand from were it had cleaned earlier in the morning, so yes they do clean it. Also when we arrived there were still Elche council staff clearing away rubbish from the night before. Look closer into the video freeze some of the frames and you will see the truth. As for seaweed well we the Brits are used to that are we not, but I never viewed any at all. Dogs Poo bet that was from those early morning walkers who think we wont see them. Perhaps I should go somewhat earlier and video a few of them. Then show them off up here? However one criticism was that the council workers had missed a punctured lilo that was half submerged on the edge of the shore, however we say a local Spanish gent struggle to retrieve it and drag it out of the way. So go look at the video for your self we like our beach.

Yes stockport dave,i did see your mention of elche, but mainly my comment was in regards to a person who stated about the poor write ups La Marina people were giving to there area,I am all for boosting it,but as I said I only walk a small part of the beach, which may not be perfect, but has a great outlook (dunes,Pine forest)not block of flats) I was not exactly disagreeing with you only pointing out the good,as you were pointing out the bad,,and the chances of anyone contacting Elche, are quite small, but fair game to you you tried.

I've just watched the vid and indeed, they have combed the beach, but only the large area to the side of Galicia. The beach (what's left of it) in front of the houses hasn't been touched for ages. My main concern was at the other end (from the river). I'm not on here to moan, i'd just like things improving, I love La Marina and the beaches, but I just wish they'd rake the sand occasionally. Bye the way, the seaweed was washed up ages ago and it attracts flies etc.

"Bump" is a term used by youngsters in the social media world. Now it's come to life on forums.
If people are reading a thread and don't want to comment but would like I see this particular thread come back to the top of the wall ten just say bump. Your bumping it back up again to the top.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-11

Are you walking on the same beach as me???? I think the beach is lovely and well kept, we had people staying the last few weeks who commented how lovely it was. I don't see much litter and sea weed is a result of the sea isn't it? For gods sake you live in a lovely place that quite well looked after. ENJOY it and stop bloody moaning.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

If you try walking up to the river, you'll see the mess and it's not been "combed" for ages. If you think plastic bottles, litter and dog shit is ok, that's up to you, and I know seaweed comes from the sea, but if it's been there for weeks, it stinks and attracts flies.
La Mata beach was fantastic yesterday, a bit crowded, but that shows that it's appreciated for it's cleanliness.
I'm only "moaning" to try and improve things, but obviously, that's gone over your head.

thanks, jetscapes. I think we're so lucky to be living here. I absolutely love this part of Spain. When I was a kid and even after that, never in a thousand years did I dream I'd be lucky enough to have this wonderful life in this fabulous place. I don't see all the terrible things that some people do. If people don't like it here why can't they just organise themselves enough to move, but please, let the rest of us embrace this wonderful town of ours. I know it's not perfect, but where is?. I love La Marina and I'm proud to show our town to everyone who visits. xx

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

wholeheartedly agree with Mazza and Jetscapes.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

Thanks Andi for explanation re: Bump

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

I seem to be getting some stick on here, but i'd like to say, I love it here in La Marina but i'm just disappointed that the beach is not maintained as it should be. By bringing attention to the lack of care on the beach, I was hoping to get some reaction that would bring about an improvement. But If you are ok with litter, plastic bottles, old seaweed and dogs and dogshit, that's fine, but i'm not.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

Well bring it to the attention of Elche Town Hall and if as you say your not confident enough get your fiscal representative o raise a complaint on your behalf. I would suggest when your over to go to our town hall on the Urb and see if they would help you, but I think I know the answer it would be the same if Elche council tried to raise a matter on the Urb.
Anyway I really think your making a mountain out of a seaweed hill it is raked and I have walked it regular from La Marina first aid station to El Pinet and I cant see anything wrong with it.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

Dave, You've just described Stockport but without the Seaweed :-)

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

Weejohnten. try walking up to Rio Segura outlet, then tell me what you think.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

Thanks marko, but you've obviously not been to Stockport lately, they recycle now, ha

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

It was meant as a joke Dave. I come from Rochdale and so Stockport is a bit posh for me.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

Thank u Andi

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-12

I think if you think its bad here. you need a trip back to the UK and take a walk through some of the towns there. No where is perfect but they do clean the beach as ive seen them and you can see the marks in the sand in the morning. Its lovely there with the dunes and pine forests. I for one love it everytime I go there and I think im very very lucky to be able to live and run a business here. Enjoy it

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-13

Marko, I took it as a joke...Rochdale ? i've had some good times there !
Jescapes, I know nowhere is perfect, but if my little rant on here can improve things slightly on the beach, my job is done.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-13

Dave,
Good times in Rochdale, where? You've obviously not been there lately.
I'm not sure about La marina but Quesada seems to have its own Road Sweeper truck that just seems to drive/clean around the urbanisations all the time.
When I last visited Rochdale, I helped my brother to take some rubbish to the tip/recycling centre.I think you need a university degree to work out the different types of rubbish. I think the Spanish Authorities do try but its the ones that are throwing it away in the first place

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-13

Just to re-cap from my original post 5 days ago. I walked the beach yesterday from the river outlet, down to Jose's beach bar, and it was just the same if not worse. It had not been raked and the litter was piled up around the bins, so obviously they'd not been emptyied for days.....BUT...from the beach bar onwards to La Marina, the sand had been raked, woo woo.

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

Why don't you give us a break and walk the other way

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

I did do, if you care to read !

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

Stockportdave. Please stop doing down our lovely little town. I don't think this is the site to air your grievances continually, it sounds like moaning. Why not form a group of likeminded souls and approach the council. I get really upset when people post about how this is a bad place to be. You must have seen how people react to it and say they won't come here so they lose out and so do our local businesses. .I say again, never in a MILLION years did I ever think I'd be lucky enough to live in such a wonderful place We're so lucky, we have the wonderful beach a decent shopping area, fabulous bars and eateries including two fabulous curry houses. I moved here with my then almost new husband after being widowed for 12 years. I can't believe how lucky we are. We've just had a couple of switched on 20 plus grandkids over and they adored La Marina. I'm going to start a group called. "I love La Marina", and I really do. Sorry for going on again but I love it here so much xxx

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

Hi Mazza,
I agree, I very nearly changed my holiday with all the negative comments, I think some people just thrive on negative agendas! How lovely that you found your happiness together after being widowed, you obviously do embrace all that! Love, health & happiness to you both.
Kind regards Patricia

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

MAZZA,
I think you must have been eating onions since suddenly you have started repeating yourself! LOL
Go for it girl, give those youngsters a bit of Mazza advice!

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

friendly Viking, yes I do. I love this site, but I can't stand the negative comments. I have to have glass half full. I believe we should celebrate our little town. YES I say again, I love La Marina, and those who don't I feel sorry for. We went to the BBQ last week at Rojos with our visiting grandkids. 10 euros for fabulous food and we could even bring our dog a take away. We went to Curry Mahal with the kids on Friday, I think, and we loved the food and atmosphere, and on Saturday Noel and the grandkids went to Ya Ge and the kids paid. We're in a little town where our choices are abundant. Why can't people enjoy what we have. This week is a sad time for our family. 2 very sad anniversareis, so perhaps that's why we're enjoying what we have here. Sorry to go on, I'd like to say I won't again, but knowing me, I probably will xxxx

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

OK Friendly Viking, just picked up the double posting, ha ha ha. I am very old so short term memory no too good xxxxx

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

A typical jock, to lazy to find out for yourself you must be a counciler

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

Patricia. Take no notice one persons opinion is nothing, it is nice here and there are many nice and friendly people come and enjoy ...

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-15

Jock?? lazy?? councillor?? unclear who you are referring to? unclear what you mean?

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-16

MAZZA
Shortly you are going to need a secretary, firstly because of the sheer volume of postings and secondly to stop you repeating yourself! LOL

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-16

Yes friendly viking, I do go on but I've just started an other very good book so you might get some peace. xx

ASL Member Founding Member 2013-07-16

OK, I give up...just for the record..I LOVE La Marina, i've been here for nearly eleven years,if I didn't like it, i'd have moved on, but not everything is perfect, but where is ?
By starting this thread, I wasn't knocking La Marina, far from it, I was knocking Elche Council for not maintaining THEIR beach, (especially the Naturist beach) and if my little rant could somehow filter through to the Council, and they cleaned it up, it would be better for all. Just try a walk down there and see if you agree, that's if you can take your eyes off all the nudity ! When you've done that walk, get back on here and see if you agree with me, until then, reserve your comments, thank you.
