What would happen if we all keep the speed limit everywhere? For instance 30 kph on Avenida San Fulgencio! It would be an interesting test. But on the other hand why should we not follow the law just because we live in Spain?

I cannot understand why the Police and the Council are causing all this confusion. We are told that the police chief told Jeff that the speed limit on the Urb. is 30kph,and 50kph when entering or leaving the Urb, so surely what we need is the speed limit signs where the 30kph ends and the 50kph starts and vice versa.
Would like someone who knows to tell us just how many drivers were fined for exceeding the speed limit on the Urb. while driving between 30kph and 50 kph, because we were also told the police would have two hand held speed guns in the july and august months,

Dont bring living in Spain into this most people speed at some time whatever country they are in. My point is that an expat is endangering peoples life by trying to force people into keeping the speed limit something not even the most hardened Guardia officer would do. Its the same wiith "why dont the police fine Spanish people driving while wearing flip flop" brigade. Looking at the "Legal" road markings, (painted on the tacmac signs are not legally binding according to a national Police guy who drinks in our local) so, the bottom road down by Lidl is 50 and it drops down to 30 by the first speed hump, there is a proper legal speed sign telling you to only do 30 over the hump, then back to 50.

The national Police guy who drinks in your local is an expert. After how many drinks? And where is the legal speed sign telling you 50 is ok?

If you had read the Spanish Press lately,you would of seen that a bill is going through at the moment and should be Law by early next year, As I remember it,it includes dropping speed limits to 30 kph in built up areas, and also roads where pedestrians, cyclists and motorists are in close proximity the speed limit may be dropped to 20kph.Also the speed limit on motorways to rise to 130kph.It also included a few other changes. That is why people believe that 50kph is the National limit, Unless otherwise denoted by an official sign stating otherwise.

The speed limits will be modified either up or down.
The most controversial part of the new code is the lifting the speed limit to 130km/h on straight sections of motorways. Panels will be used to change the speed limit in bad weather conditions, for example.
On conventional roads, the speed limit will go down from 100 to 90 when the road is more than 6.5 m wide. If it is narrower than that the speed limit will be 70 km/h.
In the cities where the maximum speed was 50 km/h,that will be reduced to 30 km/h which will be the speed on all two way city roads. But if the inner city road has only one direction the speed limit will be 20km/h to protect pedestrians and cyclists.
So 30 km/h is what we can expect in the urb. Something to look forward to?

Surely you just stated "30kph is something we have to look forward to?", then you are saying that 30kph is not the speed limit at this moment. contradicting what you said in an earlier comment, that "where is the sign telling you its fifty".
To make a further point on why the speed limit is 50kph. If the regular speed limit was 30 kph the authorities wouldn't have to put signs up telling you that, as it would be a national speed limit, The national speed limit is 50kph,so the only time you would see any other speed limit sign is when it is not 50kph,

There are signs telling you 30 is the speed limit in the urb. (e.g. Av. San Fulgencio). And this speed is the maximum untill you reach another sign telling you something else. "National speed limit is 50kph " ??? Alan there are many different speed-limits in Spain! We are not going to agree to this, but I wonder if anybody did get a fine for travelling over 30kph and under 51 kph on the Urb. in July and August when the police had two speed guns at their disposal. The Forest Road and the top road have been awash with cars travelling between 30 and 50kph.I doubt very much that any did. because otherwise we would be one of the richest Urbs. in Spain. Somehow I think whoever thought up the ridiculous idea of using up old white paint to put the number 30 on a few roads (mostly the ones that had 30kph posts up anyway)realized he had made a cock up but couldn't find any spare black paont to cover the white paint

It's just for us to wait and see what will happen when the new law comes into force. 30, 50 or ?? speed in the urb.

If the law is passed in its complete state, La Marina will then officially become 30kph,and some of it 20kph.Will be fun trying to do the equivalent of about 14 mph, somehow I think that when Town halls are short of a bob or two, police will be on most roads with radar equipment

The Humps were the original reason for putting a 30 sign on the bottom road, The Council in power at the time stated they had many complaints of cars speeding down this road at speeds over 80kph way over the 50kph limit, .so they decided on the humps to slow traffic down to the regulated speed. this worked fairly well.
