Power Cuts

ASL Member Founding Member отправить #7926 Ответы закрыты

What the hell is going on with all these power cuts we keep getting? During the night/this morning it was 4 in total.
JEFF - Surely something can be done about this and I think you are elected to sort out this problem which is getting worse. Why should we have to put up with this? All the inconvenience of having to get the computers going again, re-set the teley (which is very difficult most of the time), clocks, alarms. Over to you Jeff.......................................

Did nobody else get the power cuts? Is it just us then ????? I thought there would be loads of postings about it as it's so annoying ?????

We only got two,but that appears quite normal, always wakes us up as air con switches on and then off,
But I thought that mentioning it might sound political and the name Jeff would get me going again

They need a whatsit up that dark place. My TV is still not tuned in properly. I did it twice between cuts but for now am waiting to see if we get any more. They need to be told that people live here. So Jeff how about giving them a BLAST?

ASL Member Founding Member 2011-09-06

I most certainly agree that something needs to be done fairly urgently as these power cuts seem to be getting more frequent. I sincerely hope that Jeff is able to sort this out for us all.

Eve,
Carol,Hope and Queen Bee,dont expect jeff to sort out the problem, but he is Councillor for the Urbs, and these power cuts are an Urb problem,Jeff would be doing the right thing to find one of the other 16 Councillors who deal with the public utility companies and ask them to find out the cause of the problem and what the utility company is going to do about it.
Awhile ago you asked jeff to sort out a problem for you,he did so by getting the Coucillor who was responsible for sorting out your type of problem, but dont forget you went to Jeff first, and it wasnt a problem he could sort so he passed it on to someone who could, and that is what any decent Councillor would do and in fact jeff did just that

Thank you Alan, but it looks like Eve's deleted her post now after your comments. Yes Eve was very pleased to get her problem sorted and I agree, she did go to Jeff which he sorted. To be honest I do not really care who can sort out the power going off so regularly, so long as somebody does it.

Carol; I have spoken to a representative from Iberdrola and they inform me that because there has been an influx of visitors, there has been an increase in demand at certain times of the day. This results in the main circuit breakers being tripped. I have been informed by a retired electrician that, excessive heat can cause the internal springs in these circuit breakers to expand, they trip sometimes even when there is low demand. As much of the wiring in the Urbanisation was put in some twenty five years ago, the majority of the circuit breakers will require to be replaced.
As I write this, I am formulating a letter to Iberdrola Customer Services Dept., to see if they can give me any information as to when, they can carry out the required upgrades.
Just to clarify matters re the Circuit Breakers, The springs weaken in the heat and can result in the unit being tripped, even when there is low demand, but will try to get Iberdrola on to the problem.

There you go.
Hopefully Jeff will get the answers we all want and job done.

Thank you Jeff, but at the time of the power cuts - 3 during the early hours of the morning and one power cut around 7 - most people would be asleep. That particular night even I didn't have the air con on. Plus, at the time of the power cuts it was not excessive heat - not like mid-day/afternoon. Anyway I'm sure we all appreciate you trying to sort this out Jeff.

I agree with you Carol, we are lucky as I only have to reset my DVD system, but I woke up about three times with the beeps rom the phone system. This happening more frequently these days. So yes Jeff do your stuff.
Jaytee.

Is there any recourse from Iberdrola as these power cuts have blown my computer and my Sky box and my television and alarm system, It is not the first time and it costa lot to get them repaired, also have lost all my recordings. Is there an alternative supplier to Iberdrola ?

ASL Member Founding Member 2011-09-07

Robert,
Apparently you can change your supplier of electricity.
I had a call from iber switch last week about it,and I have been looking into it,apparently they guarantee to always get you the cheapest supplier.they do have a set up charge and a small monthly admin charge, but it could still work out cheaper than Iberdrola.
If you google..Iber switch,it will give you more info.
Hope this is of some use

From Iberdrola:
They state that they are in the process of updating the whole of the Power Grid in the Valencian Region. They have invested large sums of money into a system that will monitor the needs of the customer through a Smart Grid. I am told that this will monitor the 1800 or so Sub Stations in the Region. More than 80,000 circuit breakers will be renewed. Work is due to begin this month and should be completed by early next year. This new Smart System will be able to detect power failures, indicating the faulty equipment and sending information to engineers to attend and rectify the problem. They state that the new breakers and the monitoring of them, should put a stop to those intermittent power failures.
Unfortunately there is no immediate solution forthcoming. Iberdrola suggest that areas that are experiencing this problem should report it to Iberdrola. They do have English speaking operators, but you could find you have to hold on for some time, before being answered.
For the info of Robert and others; I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I was told that they were not responsible and that it was up to me to buy a Surge Protector. I was not covered by my home insurance at that time, but I am now

ASL Member Founding Member 2011-09-08

Jeff
For once I can say thank you for the info.and for finding out about the cause of the problem, and possible rectifications.I believe that the people who wrote comments asking you to intervene in the problem, did exactly the right thing,I am sure that if they had phoned Iberdrola to complain, they wouldnt of gotten the lenghty answer that you received.
Hopefully by early next year this problem will be sorted and wevcwill all be happy bunnies once again.
Mind you I hope that the extra cost to Iberdrola for the new smart grid,is not the reason why they have appeared to charge me twice for this months electricity

Surge Protector
We have 3 Surge Protectors fitted on our systems, but the truth is they do not always work, so far Iberdrolas power cuts have wrecked 4 of my computers, over the course of the last few years. The worst of all was just after we had put in the Surge Protectors, the power cut blew up our centre base computer that all the others were connected to, we lost not only that computer but loads of records. Have never had the heart to try and reinstate a central hub system again, now make computers work on their own. Our IT man said it was not possible but this is Spain and it did happen. One other point we put in the top of the range Surge Protectors.
But thank you Jeff for the effort you have put in. At least they might now start to correct the situation.

Alan is right that you can change supplier and Iberswitch is one of them. We signed up with them earlier this year at our bar. They dibited our account with the €30 change over fee back in April/may and we havet heard from them since. I did read in the newspaper that they were having trouble getting the origional suppliers ( in many cases Iberdrola) to do whatever was necessary on their part for the change over to happen. Eventually I called them a couple of weeks ago and they said they would have to look into it and get back to me...........still waiting.

Another company who deal with transfer of Electricity change over services are ""900 Telecom"" who are sponsors of San Fulgencio Football club. If you ring them or look on their website all the details are there.

ASL Member Founding Member 2011-09-08

Nikki,
I also signed up with Iberswitch and they told me at the discussion we had, that Iberdrola have 45 days to deal with the change over, but the clock only starts when they load the change request into their systems. Iberswitch have no control over that action.
Iberswitch have emailed me a couple of times with an update and also responded immediately with a reply went I asked a question of them.
The admin fee has been debited to my account so I'm hopeful that something will happen soon.

ASL Member Founding Member 2011-09-09

I have been with Iberswitch since April. But we signed up with them in December 2010 so it takes a while to change over and as someone commented it is Iberdrola who take the time. But, this will not make any difference to your power cuts as the electricity still originates with Iberdrola.

ASL Member Founding Member 2011-09-09

Having checked the Iberswitch website, they make it clear that after signing your contract with them,it would normally take two more payments to Iberdrola, before Iberswitch take over your account,So the easy answer to how long it takes to switch the answer would be four to five months.
