The newly established club is now of to a good start, attracting experienced regular bowlers as well as local bowlers who had previously found it too far to travel to the coast. There is also a pleasingly high percentage of new bowlers.

The club is open every day from 10.00 until 17.00 with club days on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, (with free instruction for beginners from 12.00 until 13.30), and Sunday mornings.

The arrival of the Lawn Bowls Club, the first inland Bowls Club on the Costa del Sol, has been highly anticipated and many people have already demonstrated their enthusiasm and interest towards this British originated sport.

After the official opening at 1400 by the illustrious Mayor, Lauro Golf Resort Manager Mr. Carlos Pitarch, and Lawn Bowls Club Director Mr. Kenneth Talbot, the participants enjoyed canapés and refreshments catered by Bar la Risa followed by an exhibition match. That first weekend was open, so all those who visited Lauro were invited to try out the green, (supplied by Dales Sports Surfaces),  free of charge, including free instruction for beginners.

Alhaurin el Grande

Alhaurin el Grande is a lively inland town just 35 minutes from Málaga Airport. The scenery around Alhaurin is quite spectacular with the Sierra de Mijas forming a dramatic backdrop to the town.

There’s a full range of shops and amenities in the town, plenty of restaurants and bars, a brand new swimming pool and a sports centre. The town is typically Spanish and throughout the year, there are parades, street parties, processions, etc.

Alhaurin de la Torre

Alhaurin de la Torre is a bigger town than el Grande and has similar facilities including shops, banks, restaurants, a market (Wednesday), sports centre, swimming pool…

It’s fair to say that de la Torre is the more elegant of the two towns. It’s on the Málaga side of Lauro so you would pass through de la Torre on your way to/from Málaga or the airport.

From the club you can get to the coast within 15 minutes.

Like el Grande, de la Torre has regular street parties, parades and processions when all the locals get together to eat, drink and be merry.

Both towns have a lively night life, which goes on to the early hours of the morning.

Málaga is the major city in Málaga Province and has excellent rail and road connections to other parts of Andalucia and Spain.

Málaga airport is undergoing a major upgrade with a new terminal and runway being added to cope with the extra visitors. In mid-summer, it’s already "a little frantic" - hence the expansion.
