Pound and Euro

ASL Member Founding Member Mensaje #10679 Respuestas cerradas

I am on a roll this week,my Wife is back in the U.K.visiting yet again out new grandson, great news for her,not so good for readers of this forum.as it gives me more time to write comments.
So here goes.
This evening the pound reached a high against the euro for quite some time, trading bank to bank at 1.1830 to the Pound Sterling, meaning that if you are bringing pounds in to change you will get more euros than normal, and also if your British government pension is paid into your Spanish account, you can expect more Christmas spending money(dont get too excited it wont be a fortune) on the downside if you are selling your property in Spain and returning to U.K. to live you will lose out in the currency exchange. some you win some you lose

I keep a eye on the markets every hour on my phone. My family have been here since 1997 if i can remember correct. People are talking about a euro crisis, it will happen the euro will break up or at least revert to a two tier europe. You have the likes of Spain lets start with them, from July August they close down during the summer months. Greece well i dont need to on about them there never going to recover in my life time. This new euro rule that might come into affect where your GDP has to be no more than 4-5% of your annual budget. How on earth can the euro zone members agree to that when every country in the euro zone is operating way above that now. I believe Cameron was right to veto what he did.Either way the UK will suffer if we reamin part of the EU or leave the EU. my fear is for all the OAPs here if the UK leave or are "booted out" im sure you will all lose some kind of health care under the current system.
I maybe a young guy but when it comes to politics and hearing 'tonto' (silly in english) men talk about europe and meetings and so on. Its a joke. Everytime the FTSE 100 closes down the pound to the euro edges up. Its very intresting. Take for instance the FTSE closed down -87.6 points or, 1.58% the euro topped 1.18.
Well thats my rant about europe today.. Sorry if all the older people dont get the gist of what im rambling on about.

Andi,
You are right in what you said about the FTSE and the euro, always moving different directions, that is the way finance works, you put your money where you believe that you get the best returns, except countries finance houses do this by the billions of dollars, pounds and euros every minute of the day.
My main belief is that Countries, need foreign currency and to do this they have to export more than they import, unfortunately the likes of Spain export very little except fruit and vegetables, and tourism, they also had a good chance while people in non Euro countries were buying land and houses in Spain with Foreign money,They and many other Countries were too happy to jump on the the gravy train and not worry about the future by diversifying into manufacturing for export when they had the money and time to do so.Hence Germany is probably the only Country who did,now control completely the E,U.because they aint gonna lose all what they have worked hard for.
I feel this may get too political, for some readers, but at least it gets some of my rants off my chest.I have more to say in reply to your comment, but great to see someone else on this forum, likes a bit of politics, would be nice if lots of us could give an opinion, that they have,it will not change the world but would make for some interest.
