SELL UP & MOVE!

Hello La Marina. Al from Temptations here. This will NOT be nice!
I've had it! I am fed up with all the nigling & moaning about the same issue every day!! After speaking with Counsellor Jeff Wiszniewski yesterday, he said that the "powers to be" in Valencia have communicated to our council, the mayor & him with questions as to what is the problem with noise in Urbanization La Marina. They explained that there are ZERO noise complaints in all their other towns & urbs in their jurasdictions, only "Urb. La Marina" seems to be a problem area. One person even wants have entertainment TOTALLY BANNED in La Marina!
There are 6 or 7 individuals who have had a miserable life in the U.K., then, for whatever reason, have chosen to live here in La Marina, & have then decided to inflict their miserable existence on everyone they can!! SELL UP & MOVE! You are a very SMALL minority. You feel you have come here & now step in &try to have things run your way at the expense of everyone else & just generally moaning about the lifestyle of Spain & that you have made a mistake about buying a home in the wrong location. 95% of you had the knowledge (it was available through your estate agent & solicitors) that there would be a commercial centre built where Consum Square is located BEFORE you purchased your home. Only the remaining 5% did not, but this does happen in Spain occasionally doesn't it? WHAT THE HECK DID YOU THINK WOULD BE BUILT HERE?? A few clothing shops, a candy shop, a theatre, a bowling alley? NO!!! There will be a supermarket, a barber shop, a news agent, an optician, a charity shop, a chinese outlet & RESTAURANTS & BARS!!! Now, I know every one of you 6 or 7 individuals have used almost every business in the Consum Square at one time or another over the years. The centre has added value to your homes & made it very convenient for you in your day to day lives. You know you were very lucky to have this centre right at your doorstep. Just think, you may actually have had to get in your car & drive to the closest supermarket, restaurant or bar. Unfortunately, while we appreciate your business & loyalty, you, as the 6 or 7 individuals, do not spend enough money to keep us all in business. If you 6 or 7 individuals want to donate a sum of money that will keep our doors open without offering entertainment, then we will do so as to bother your very sensitive ears. We would LOVE to come to that arrangement. Now, seriously, I don't think the 6 or 7 of you can raise that much cash! So, that leads us to the on-going LA MARINA MOANERS CLUB problem.
Remember when you 1st arrived here in Spain on a holiday & said " I believe we can spend the rest of our days here", or "what a lovely urbanization, lots of our fellow english-speaking friends, restaurants, bars, singing, dancing, fireworks & fiestas". FIESTAS!!!! Yes, my friends, THAT is what Spain & living here is all about. You decided to come here to ENJOY the Spanish way of life, live life to the fullest, & perhaps even join in a song or two in Karaoke. And those wonderful fiestas. LOTS OF THEM!! Believe it not, you actually made NOISE! Was there ever a complaint, threat to sue, a denuncia against a proprietor or a business or against anyone? NO! You were actually having fun!! This is what you all wanted when you retired. If you wanted the quiet retirement lifestyle, you should have chosen living in the country or on an island in the South Pacific (where some of you probably belong). When you purchased your homes, they were at a very reasonable price & most, if not all of the 6 or 7 of you would make a considerable profit if you SELL UP & MOVE!

Speaking with the other business owners here in the Consum Square, we know that some people know the identity of the 6 or 7 persons are that are trying to run this urbanization with their threats of trying to ban all entertainment in the urb. We feel it is up to YOU to discourage them from ruining the well-being of the businesses that are genuinely trying to make a decent living here by providing great food & entertainment for the 99% of the residents here that appreciate somewhere to go, something to do, & meet with friends at a convenient location. It has not been easy to survive here with the economy being what it is today. It's up to the residents of Urbanization to stand up & say to these 6 or 7 individuals, "if you don't like a bit of entertainment in your miserable lives, SELL UP & MOVE!"
There is a petition in all the restaurants & bars that has been signed by over 100 residents in just 3 days that is calling for the August Fiesta to be held in Consum Square as we have been informed that there is a threat of a lawsuit to PREVENT it from being held there. Please, if you have not yet done so, ask the proprietor for the petition & show your support. But please, only sign your names once as it will be scrutinized for double signatures. This is not only important to us but if we lose the fiesta to another less quality location (such as the marketplace) this will affect the amount of holiday makers that will decide where to come next year. It was an absolute disaster when held there 3 years ago. There are many residents less than 50 meters away. It will be a nightmare to have all the restaurants & bars participate as we get our portable bars, pumps, chairs & tables loaned from the local beer suppliers & they are in very short supply. Many electric power generators & a water supply would have to be supplied. We would have to employ additional staff to run 2 locations as we cannot close our main businesses during this Fiesta. Security will be almost impossible. And the music from this location would still be heard over the ENTIRE urbanization anyway. If you know the party that is trying to prevent this very successful fiesta from being held here in Consum Square, tell him to SELL UP & MOVE!

As I said, this will not be nice. My wife Susan & I have had a wonderful time here in Spain. We've met some of the kindest, warmest, funny, hard-working & fantastic people here. We've met other business owners such as Paul & Jan From Hogs Head, Albert & Linda from The Final Whistle, Chris & Bev from "J's" Cafe, Tina & Werner from Palm Tree, Ian & Dennis from Los Amigos & many more that all provide a place to go & enjoy one's self. We've also met some miserable people that have nothing better to do than be a member of the LA MARINA MOANERS CLUB. The 99% of people who live here ARE enjoying their lives. STOP RUINING IT for all of us, businesses & residents alike. If you don't like it here in the urbanization, SELL UP & MOVE!

Sorry if I get long winded but we need to sort these 6 or 7 individuals out before we have no fiestas, no music, no karaoke, no quizzes, no bingo, no football, & eventually, NO URBANIZATION! Valencia is really concerned as to WHY there is a problem here. Do you not like the Spanish way of life? Why did you move here then if you object to some music? Yes, we will sort out the irresponsible bars that are causing the main problem. But this is part of the Spanish tradition. Music, fiestas & fun. The over-whelming majority of us DO. Come on La Marina!! Show your support, sign our petition & show these 6 or 7 individuals that we will not be bullied to accept their miserable way of life. Tell them to SELL UP & MOVE!

Al Anders

Well said Al, we have had a house on La Marina for 15 years and last years fiesta was brill, the best ever, the year at the market place was a waist of space and money. Have already booked for the Summer again, and my eldest girl is bringing 3 of her friends as she had such a great time. Am over at the weekend so will come in and support you with a glass of wine or two...

Temptations,
Yes that was a long winded comment,But can I be one of the first to congratulate you on it.
It shows the anger you feel (and quite rightly)And your love for La Marina, and Spain.
I applaud your sentiment, and I have backed the Bars from step one,and will do so,It is not because I know any of the owners,But I realise without these bars and restaurants la Marina is dead,I for one will fight to keep it alive,in fact i would be happier if it was even livelier than what it is.
I think that most of the half dozen or so moaners have ceased using this forum for there own gratification, and it seems only two or three at the most are left.It gets tedious telling them how selfish and irresponsible they are, that i just follow there comments with the letters ´,lol´ in case they dont understand it means "laugh out loud"which most people must do everytime they read one of there comments.
The normal people of La Marina must sign this petition to stop the this threat from going ahead.
I also say that if Valencia is worried about what is happening to La Marina, let us tell them to jump in a car,we are not a million miles away, and talk to people who live here and ask them, what they think of La Marina,I will lay odds that after talking to people, they themselves will be buying places here.
To the moaners i say ,you have had your 15 minutes of fame,so grow up get your dignity back and for once enjoy your life, you aint making mine miserable, because i can see you for what you are,and that is a very small pack of nimbys, If you dont like La Marina do as Temptations said, and move,To stop the obvious moan from perhaps one of the moaners, even if you are Spanish,Spain is a big place you aint happy here go somewhere else and do us all a favour
A quick message to all the bars fighting for the futureof La Marina, I hope you have a resounding success,if you do perhaps we could all have a great party in Consum area to celebrate

Al, as I said to you before in person, well said. The persons who do not want the fiesta should shut up & move out. I do hope that the fiesta goes head for everyone on the Urb & for get about the persons who do not want it

Well said Al i hope some of these people read this and feel ashamed of themselves. We came to spain to live the spanish life and that included the music which is so much a part of spanish life, good luck and lets hope these people move then we can all get back to enjoying ourselves and living the spainish life

Commented Linda in La Marina 2012-05-16 19:21:47 UTC

I agree with everything you say there Al. Perhaps to keep things balanced we should have a very small piece of paper in the same locations for the people against the fiesta to sign, to see if they are willing to stand up and be counted as are the people who are in favour of it. I doubt whether you would get one signature on it as they only like to complain against it anonymously.

Eve, the council will not give us their names for obvious reasons. We would love to see them come out & identify themselves but I won't hold my breath..Al
