Hi Karen, sorry to hear that your dog is so terrified by vets. Pauline and myself take our little ones to Sonja at San Anton vets, calle Alfredo Kraus (opposite the K9 charity shop). They are brilliant with animals and will take extra care if you tell them your situation. Sonja is normally there most mornings from 9:30 am (I think).

Hi Karen have you tried Sedation, you should be able to get some pills from the Vets.

thanks guys, vets in England would not agree to sedation, worth asking. Any one taken out pet insurance? what are the typical vets fees like here?

I also Take my pets ( 3 cats and a dog) to San Anton vets and would agree that they are very good. Our dog is not very friendly but they always find a way of doing whatever needs to be done.
I think prices are cheaper than I remember them being in the UK. I just asked the price of micro chipping a cat and that is €35.
Spot on treatment for fleas and ticks is about €18 from Pet Shop Patricia in the village ( for a pack). Lots of people use the Scalibur collars for fleas and ticks on their dogs, but the cheapest place i have found for this is Amazon.co.uk. Get free postage and have sent to someone in the uk who can then post them to you. If you have sent direct from Amazon its more expensive.
Regarding pet insurance, they dont go in for it much here. I got a quote from an insurance broker in the village about 4 years ago and it was something like €24 per month for a cat.So its not cheap. Good luck with finding a vet your doggy gets along with. I would also highly reccommend Pet Shop Particia in the village for grooming, food and accessories.

Hi, as I work in insurance they will not cover any pre-existing conditions the pet already has before you take out the policy so if you want to take it out for injuries caused by the dog attack I'm afraid it wouldn't be covered. Im going by UK policies not sure if it would be different in Spain.

our dog has fully recovered from his injuries and has no on going treatment or existing conditions. I always insured him in England and have contacted 'protect a pet"here but the costs are double what I was paying

Hi karen - I agree with Nikki - San Anton is the best, the Urb has a San Anton and the 24 hour hosp in Guardamar for an emergency. There are some super vets there including Jose Maria who speaks perfect english, as do most of the others. Also Berenguer who saved the life of my Yorkie, and gave my Rottie a few more months of life. I cannot speak highly enough of them
