My dads place was done twice and is now like Fort Knox ,he has always said if they get in again it is time to sell up.We were sat on the back once and they tried with a long pole to get the keys but knocked an ornament off and got our attention

Maz, yes I have, three times in total, once when I was away on a course, the footprints led into my sleeping baby daughters bedroom. Even though frustrating, I could never suggest to be wary of a whole country of individuals (I'm assuming Moroccans, in this case, or could be Muslims).

jeanettehemsley,I can tell you i have lived here for over six years,and i feel safer here than I ever did in U.K,you actually see Women walking on there own late at night here,I forget when i ever noticed that in the U.K.
Obviously the same common sense rules apply like everywhere else.If you rent a car tear of the sticker advertising the hire company before leaving the airport,dont be tempted to stop if someone drives past you and waves you down,hide all valuables,dont leave your handbag or camera etc.on the passenger seat when leaving the car.when in your accomodation,keep as many doors and gates locked as possible,I could write more things,but I am sure you are sensible enough to know them and abide by them already,I think the easiest ways of losing anything is when you are out shopping or on the beach,so just be extra careful then.
Really the fact that robberies are not rife in La Marina,is in the fact that if it was normal,nobody would be putting things on Forums,It is a reminder of what can happen more than what does happen

Thank you for your advice, I'm not renting a car, so one less thing to worry about. I am so excited about my holiday, I just want to relax and have a great time. Four weeks to go!!! Take care

Enjoy your holiday and don't let the scare stories worry you. As Alan mentioned, just use common sense, don't go around with a large amounts of cash on you and you should be fine. I sometimes have dealings with Moroccans and the ones I have met are lovely. One thing I would add to Alans suggestions is to not put your handbag on the floor under the table when having a drink or meal.

I posted about my friends break-in last thursday and Marko at Quesada made a few sarcastic comments. If you had seen the state she was in, you may have found it in your heart to feel sorry for her. Other comments were that I was "scare mongering", well 1). A lady from the same area found a person in her house 2 days previous to this and 2) now this evening a family behind my friends house found a person on their property, a spanish family I might add. The person ran away and the police have been in the area trying to catch him. People are desperate for money and will go to any lengths to get it so, take care of your property and be aware of what is going on around you.

Further to Eve's comment last week about my break-in, I would like to confirm everything she has reported and that my home was completely ransacked and damaged internally , looking for a safe!!!! I didn't have one so they just took some cash and jewellery. Another incident happened this afternoon in the same area. PLEASE BE ON YOUR GUARD AT ALL TIMES AND KEEP DOORS LOCKED. They just walk in through your gate if it is open.

I'm sorry Eve if you found my comments sarcastic, however I was only expressing an opinion on what I thought was a bit of stereo typing. Of course I feel sorry for your friend who had to deal with the aftermath.

Again after speaking to ronnie solo after he was broken into it has really shook him and his wife up.

I have never experienced this. I have an alarm system with cameras directly linked to the alarm company. In the evenings when we sit watching television in the front of the house, I put the alarm on the back door. When we are in bed both the back and the front is alarmed with cameras. It costs 39.95 a month. That is less than 10 euros a week, worth it for peace of mind. If would be thieves see that you have "Alarma con grabacion de imagenes" pasted all over your property, then they will think twice about breaking in. I am not saying it is infallible because there is always a chancer but, at least we are trying to protect ourselves, our dog and our belongings.

hi i was broken into on la marina,we only went out foe 2 hours to eat ,they went in every draw and took load of stuff but we could hardly tell they had been in by some draws left a bit open we found the doors had ben forced later but they did it tidy but its still not nice !!!!!!!!! dont think they will catch the bastards i would like to get my hands on them !!

Being burgled is frightening, especially for someone on their own. Surely we have to let our neighbours know if these things are happening. When we were approached by a couple of lads pretending to ask for information who then tried to pinch Noel's wallet
we warned everyone. We all have to take care. I think to a lot of skint people we appear to be rich. That doesn't mean we are. We just have to take extra care, and watch for anything that looks suspicious. It's not scare mongering, it's common sense.

From what I have heard from friends there has been many burglaries on the urb in the last few weeks. A ladder was stolen from one garden and was used by the thieves to climb over walls into other gardens, usually from a green verde area behind the houses away from the roads. They go from one house to another, even over high walls. Where are the police patrols when you want them. What about the councils Civil Protection officers, I believe the the council bought them a vehicle but I have never seen it around the Urb!

As you know La Marina urb is like a rabbit warren - so many little roads and alley ways. It would need a platoon of police officers to patrol all of it. Everyone has to be extra vigilant. Never leave your gate unlocked even for a second. That is all it takes for them to walk in. It does not seem as if they want to hurt anyone. This is some consolation.

If there is heavy rain, there will be 4 policemen standing round a large puddle blowing whistle's,,,if you get burgled,,forget it

Thanks for the insight, my husband and I are now very careful with gates, doors etc. The M*******S, whoever these people are, should now be aware we are vigilant!

Glad to be of help friendlyviking, if everyone takes extra care then they will not be able to cause this mayhem. These people are obviously desperate for money, and as most of us have probably never been it that situation, we do not realise just how desperate they are.
