Exercise is to exchange an Australian driving licence to a UK /EU one ( am citizen) thus enabling me to drive in sunny Spain!! Gib would have been probably nearer but no address there....so UK here I come!
Have just about driven in every country in the western world, for about 50 years, accident free, but not good enough for the brilliant drivers that are bred in Spain!

If you choose to live in Spain, why not go for a Spanish licence. My husband did because we believe that as our host country we should comply with their ruling.

The problem is that the Spanish authorities for some reason do not recognize an Australian (or Canadian) licence so will not change it for a Spanish one, whereas a UK, European or US licence can just be swapped over. You either take the written test then 20hrs tuition with a Spanish instructor then take the practical test 1800€ or so, or you go to UK and swap Aussie for UK then come back to Spain and swap UK for Spanish.

Yes that is what I'm going to do. Because, hey, have you seen the multiple choice questions they have on the Spanish one?? It could be any one answer on any specific day for some of them depending on the examiner!! Some of them are downright traps... Mind you I haven't read any instruction books and the answers may be revealed surreptitiously therein, but a photo of a road e.g. with no signs, buildings or anything on it and they ask you the maximum speed? 80, 90 or100...I assuming it must be 90 but how would you know? It may be 80, but they all drive at either 40 or 100 anyway so.....
