Holiday Renters told, "Hands off our Geckos!"

LANDLORDS OF holiday homes are starting to leave notes for holidaymakers requesting they do not kill the geckos (small lizards that live on the walls and ceilings of most Costa Blanca houses and also in the gardens and nayas).

After visitors depart, owners and holiday management companies find several little corpses; evidence of assassination by renters unaware of the geckos’ long standing and efficient role of keeping insects at bay! The shy and innocent gecko is quite harmless and many villa owners name them after artists or composers.

We've got 2 baby ones in the villa at the moment - in the kitchen and the bathroom. We usually have quite a big gecko living in our extension every year - you can usually see him sprawled out near the top of the wall. We would never kill these as they help to keep the mosquito's at bay !!

It is most important that one does not kill these Geckos - they do an extremely important job of eating those insects that we all wish to keep out of our homes.

The first time I came here I stayed in a Villa at Oliva, English owned but in the small print it stated that we were to cause no harm to the resident Geckos, in the premises was a little surprised when I saw them as to how big they were.
