THE CHINEESE ARE COMING

Just got back from a week in sunny Quesada with very mixed feelings, It was great to see all the bars and restaurants buzzing with people all out for a good time but when you speak to the staff or owners they are all saying that its very hard for them at the moment and business is very hard. The same story it appears for a lot of the shops. The same can not be said about the Chinese restaurants, wok's or one of the many massive stores they have opened selling everything that you do not need. It seems that they are doing well and business is booming, soon I feel that we will have Chinese estate agents and bars in Quesada.

Quesada

I agree - and wrote to one of the local papers a few months ago saying that Quesada has now officially been renamed China Town. I was accused of racism by the editor! But it isn't racism - I wouldn't care if they were little blue men from Mars - the fact is they have changed the whole character of the area, destroyed all the local businesses who couldn't compete, and guess what, now they have a monopoly the prices are going up because we have no choice but to use them. It isn't the Spain we came out to nine years ago and yes, I know we're 'foreigners' too, but we created employment and made a contribution to the local economy. These awful shops only employ Chinese and are now in competition with each other which makes no sense - so is there something more sinister going on? Makes you wonder....

I do agree with the email, I'm Spanish and we do welcome anyone from abroad to enjoy the beauty of our country,I also love to practice my bit of English, but I have to say it seems everyone just don't care about Quality anymore, shopping all sorts at the cheapest price no matter if u needed or not or if it last for a few times and then put it in the bin; I cant blame the Chinese to take advantage of that, is in people's minds now, I do understand there is crisis and commodities prices are going up but there are going up for everyone, business owners too, while the Asians got free tax from Spanish Gov,same in the UK but it does not looks as obvious, if u check any products from any of the main High Street sellers is all made in Asia.., thats how u all get these 3 for 2 deals and all sorts of discounts.I think is fair to have some competition to regulate prices so don't get too high but this is getting too far and taking us deeper and deeper down. Just think twice when shopping anything about how much u think that cost to produce, materials, taxes, work labor, transport etc... , that will suffice,Thanks in advance! Gracias !

THE CHINESE ARE HERE

If nothing else they will make the rest of us raise our game, and its about time. A lot of the English business people think its their right to make money by offering bad service now they have competition and had better watch out. Its time to make an effort

CHINESE ESTATE AGENTS

I have heard that they are looking at opening an estate agents and are already talking to an established one that is interested in selling in Quesada. This would be very interesting a Chinese estate agents on the high street, has anyone else heard about this or is it just gossip?

I for one think it would be a good thing as John the Golfer said its about time some of the English business people improved there services, and people in the property business are the biggest culprits, not all mind you I have heard great reports about some of them and bad about a few. But thats another story.

Well I for one will be keeping an eye open in Quesada over the coming months.

I agree with most of the comments that everyone makes, but we must remember we are not playing on the same playing field as alizia points out the chinese get tax concessions, which the Spanish or the British do not get. Nevertheless this does not mean you deliver a poorer service, I believe all the other businesses should stand together and show that they can also provide an excellent service at fantastic prices and step up to the mark.

Does anyone know why they get the tax breaks and we (Brits) do not?
I find it interesting that Sue wrote to the papers and got told it was racism, but is not giving one group of people a tax break and not others the same thing????

I totally agree Dave!!! The only way of finding out for sure is to ask a Spanish asesor or gestor, who should be able to explain. I have spoken to numerous Spanish nationals and they all complain about this issue.

just a quick note, they have tax relief because the governments are making business deals, you can see it on the news. I dont see many bad service on the ex-pats business, I think they are quite good on making deals, what I see is a lot of people moaning for nothing,it seems its the " official sport", I lived in the uk for 5 years and I havent seen people moaning like here before, never happy enough...Just enjoy the sun and complain manana !.. :o )
