worried !!!

Hi All,
Maybe I'm be a bit of a wuss but....I'm getting a bit worried about all these postings on the forum about, places shutting down, due to no music allowed, no TV, or even radio !
Also talk of the place becoming a ghost town, people saying its going to be a ghetto ! People moving out... etc
I'm coming over in September to La Marina to buy a home, but I'm getting worried over all these postings. I've been over to La Marina and loved it, so much so I want to live here. ( As some of the good people on this forum might already know from my previous posting's.)
Please people don't be scare mongering. I'll be living on my own, so the thoughts of the place turning into a ghost town/ghetto are frightening.

La Marina

Come over as planned and see for yourself, La Marine is still a lovely place too live. I am sure that you will be looking to buy here not because it has a buzzing night life but for many other reasons. There are plenty of reasons for living here, just because a bar hasn't got live music is not the end of the world and I'm sure many bars will carry on regardless.

We are moving back to La Marina to live again in January. We lived there for 4 years and have been back for holidays numerous times. We missed La Marina and the many friends we made, greatly, in between times. It is a place that I know I would be happy to be if I was on my own. Let all the rumours go over your head and go with your own feelings.

Hi, luvmylife,
I will be coming over in Sept, plane and villa rental, booked and paid for, appt with estate agent's being looked into. While, though I'm sure La Marina hasn't changed that much since I was over in March, its the future of La Marina that has me worried, the way some of the posters are painting it.
While I'm no bar fly, lol... ( don't intend on proping up any bar) I do like a glass of wine with a meal and yes I do like a bit of musical and social entertainment (Not till 5am mind ) ...lol and not heavy metal fan!....aka rock festival ! Everything within reason.
Its the future of La Marina, people saying its going to turn into a ghetto with businesses and shops being closed down that I'm worried about.
Is this a reality ? Could this really happen? ....worrying

Its just people putting their own slant on things. When people post thinks like this I always remember something my nan used to remind me of. My grandad was one of the first that needed to take a driving test rather than just get in and drive. He was writing letters to all the government bodies telling them that the uk car industry would be ruined and all the roads that they had built would be redundant etc and he believed it, all because he was being forced to do something he didnt want to do. Did it stop people owning cars? Dont worry since this started I have not met anyone that is thinking of moving away because of the lack of music.

Julie don't be put off by all the bad vibes on this forum I assure it's a great place to live. It's handy for airports shops Elche , Torrie,Alicante . Great beaches and in general great people if only some of the good stuff was posted on here instead of the negative vibes. Check out the events section above and this is only some of them that are advertised on here there are plenty more. Come over enjoy the climate, the people, the life.

There is far more to life in La Marina than music in the bars ... sunshine, beaches, mountains half an hour away, huge variety of restaurants at amazing prices, medical clinic, pharmacy, supermarkets to mention a few. The danger of all the moaning about music on this site is that it paints such a dreadful picture that people are put off the area. Come out as planned and enjoy yourself, I am sure you will find all you need. Good luck for your future whatever it may hold.

Thank you, Flora, weejohnten and johnmckernanjr,
You have all made me feel a bit less apprehensive now, thanks. It was always my dream to retire to Spain.
I was staying in Guademar with a friend who owns a place there and I came to La Marina for the 1st time to go to the Thursday market. I immediately liked it, it wasn't high rise like Torrevieja and seemed like it was a very friendly little community. As I'd be on my own this appealed to me. I have posted on the forum and the people on the forum have always been kind with their comments and honest to me, I really appreciate it.
Yes La Marina does have a lot going for it, proximity to beaches, airport, markets, and well serviced with supermarkets and within driving to the Habaneras etc.
I'm hoping to get involved in clubs, for Art, lovepainting and hoping to take up a sport maybe bowls or pentaque ? Hope there's plenty of clubs ongoing in the winter to keep me occupied and make new friends.

Come and enjoy it, nobody knows what will happen. It didn't put me off opening a business on the urb, and shouldn't stop people moving here.

You will be fine, it is the one place that I feel you can be out on your own safely.

You may arrive on your own, but you will soon make many friends as people just say hola etc as you walk down the road its a place for happy people as no one is pre- judged unlike in the UK where odd balls and loners are (not saying you are) scorned upon and frowned upon

Julie I live here on my own, and although I am older than you I still feel very safe walking home at night from a pleasant evening out. There is plenty to do even in winter, and I'm sure you will make many friends. have tried living elsewhere, and I honestly think our urb is the best alternative around. Excellent for shops, parking, and yes - even nightlife - the fear of lack of live music will be sorted out in the future I'm sure! Go with your instinct and don't let scaremongers affect your decision! Torrevieja and Guardamar - although pretty-but with all their oneway street systems and difficulties in parking were not for me! La marina is central for airports, motorways, beaches - you wouldn't find a better place on Costa Blanca south...

Thank you ,
Jodie, Heather, 2ndcasa, and Alison, thank you for your kind and reasuring comments. Yes, when I went over to La Marina it was a very friendly and welcoming little town, everyone saying "Hello & Hola" in the shops and everyone smiling, so friendly, I would hate it to lose that ! That's why I choose it over Torrevieja, which seemed so impersonal and too exspanse to really have that community feel about it. I'm looking forward to returning to La Marina in September.
Hopefully I might see some of you nice people on my travels. Do say "Hello" if you see me, I haven't changed that much from my photo... lol (only taken 2 months ago). Jodie when I do move over to La Marina I'll be taking my little Maltese down to you for her cut and blow dries. Best of luck for the future with your business.
Thank you all once again for all your honest and heartwarming replies,
Julie.
