Description

This Finca, approximately 150 years old, is situated on high ground overlooking the ducal town of Osuna, with wonderful views in all directions. This enchanting countryside is very reminiscent of Tuscany and in the late 1800’s, probably even more so, when grapevines were cultivated all over these hills, originally brought here by the Romans. It was the blight that swept Europe around this time that wiped out all of the vines here and today we now have olive groves where vineyards used to be. The olives on this Finca are ecological and are used for olive oil. The farmers who owned this Finca many years ago, planted wheat in-between the rows of olive trees and milled the grain on the round mill area in front of the house, using their mule and donkey. The era is still intact and in fact is the only one left in the area. At the bottom of the land alongside the river, the farmer planted his flat beans and artichoke and today the remnants of this old kitchen garden remain in the form of wild blackberries, pear trees, fig trees, wild fennel and capers. The river is dry throughout the hot summers but comes to life every year with the first rains of winter. Partridge are everywhere throughout the spring and come August the hunting season begins and the vision of the dark silhouette at daybreak, of man, rifle and gun dog on the hill in the distance is always magical. The hare is also hunted here, but this is usually on horseback, accompanied by greyhounds. The peace and tranquillity here is a tonic, the setting is extremely private, but not at all isolated and one becomes quite blasé about the flocks of geese passing overhead every year, the miniature owls living in the trunks of the olive trees and the hawks and eagles which are a regular feature in the big sky. Approximately one acre of garden is walled and the majority of the land enclosed by fence. This garden is very low maintenance featuring of course, specimen olive trees, plus almond, fig, orange and pomegranate, with lavender, rosemary, thyme and acacia. The renovation of the Finca was done with painstaking care and every effort to ensure that the finished house sat comfortably in the landscape. All original features were preserved and any additional details were sourced from architectural salvage warehouses in Andalucía. The distribution is as follows: From the front door you enter into the hall with study area, featuring the original fireplace canopy, with wood burning stove. To the left, through-sitting room with wood burning stove, shuttered window to front of house and glazed door into conservatory. On the right hand side of the hall is the cloakroom and lavatory. At the end of the hall, double doors lead into the kitchen, which is double height with two shuttered windows and one single glazed and shuttered door overlooking the back garden. Double doors (glazed) lead from the kitchen into the conservatory. From here a solid wooden door leads into the second bedroom suite, steps down to small passage with door to the en-suite shower room/lavatory on the right, leading into the large sitting room, double height with views to the side of the house, via the double glazed doors which lead to a terrace. Another single door leads to the porch and swimming pool in the back garden. There is an amazing Mezzanine/bedroom upstairs. Back in the conservatory, double glazed doors lead into a small open patio, with fixed stone dining table and small grotto. From the patio, a metal gate at the bottom of the staircase leads up to the tower and upstairs sun terrace with splendid views over the Finca and surrounding countryside, the best views of Osuna are experienced from here. A solid wooden door leads into the third bedroom suite – bedroom, en-suite shower-room and kitchenette. Double glazed doors with view to the side of the house and terrace. There is also a door from the conservatory, to the swimming pool/back garden. Back in the entrance hall, staircase leads upstairs to the master bedroom suite with bathroom and sitting, dressing area. Three shuttered windows overlook the front of the house and one shuttered window in the bedroom overlooking the patio. The grounds are 40,000m2 (10 acres) and are mainly planted with ecological olive although there are many shade trees, fruit tress and an ecological veg patch. There is approximately 4,000m2 of garden that’s fenced and walled in. There is a large gate beside the pool house leading to a large enclosed area suitable for animals. There is also a large wood store area. There is a single stable, tack room and hay store as well as a good sized corral; the stable area is completely fenced in. There is also a chicken run and 2 dugouts for the resident tortoises. The pool and patio areas are fantastic with shaded pergola and shower area. The pool house/cabana is a good size and with certainly enough space for fully self contained guest/servants quarters. The summer kitchen is complete with pizza/bread oven. The fully tiled pool is a good size and very low maintenance. Just off the pool area is a laundry/utility area with the gas fired heating for the Finca. There is air/heat conditioning throughout as well as full central heating. This is a one-of-a-kind Finca and is offered in perfect condition and ready to enjoy now.
