I have just started using the local forums again and am a member of this one and another which I will not list as I want to do NOTHING to help them after there reaction to me when I ask what I thought was a simple question.
I was called a TROLL and a chap called Jim Taylor wants to fight with me!!! my crime I asked why it was not allowed to post links on there site, I see you can on this one so I though it was the norm! In fact I got the answer from someone called the LAND LADY and I thought that was the end of it but NO, I just got attacked on the site.
I am only having my say as I feel I have to say something, Has anyone else every had a problem or is it just me?

And who the hell is this JIM Taylor

La Marina

the one thing you miss out on,is you dont know Jim Taylor, for your information,Jim is what Forums are about,If you need advise or information ask Jim he will give you the true facts and answers,I have asked for advise on La Marina Forum many times as have other people, and Jim will nearly always have the answer either through personal knowledge,or from his mega data base I have just read your comments which appear on the La Marina Forum, and according to you this sight Spanish Life has been going for seven years, not exactly reliable info. was it.
What you will realise is that this Forum is good for a barney, with peoples views varying to the extreme,Where as the other one is a way of getting help and advise normally in a sane manner.

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-14 08:36:14 UTC

If you read my post again you will see my last statement (Who the hell is Jim Taylor) so I did not miss out that I do not know him.
This site from what I can see is what people want it to be, if its a barney then thats fine, the people who use it decide the content, On the other one it is controlled by a school teacher who decides what can and can not be said. We are not children we can decide what to say (within reason)

As for this site I simple made a statement regarding its age as the LAND LADY commented that it was only new sites that were trying to get members that let links be put on, I then went on line and found out when the site was started, I did make a small mistake and its 6 not 7 years old, that is why its on the first page of Google

Hi Papillon - This La Marina site (A Spanish Life) has now been running for approximately 18 months or so. It was myself and my partner Ian that have been running it until a few months ago. We did an extremely lot of work promoting and advertising this site and we have now accumulated thousands of members. Saying that a lot of these people just like to come on and read but do not post.

We have no real Rules on this site other than no swearing is allowed and no bitchiness to other members. Other than that you can more or less do what you want. Plus, as you mentioned, you can put links in.

I would just also like to make a point here, even I was banned from the other La Marina forum where Jan is the Landlady (and we were sponsoring it at the time). So many Rules & Regulations - you don't know what you can or can't do half the time. I hope you will enjoy posting up here. Yes, we do have many fairly heated debates up here but it is also here to help and advise people.

Commented Carol in La Marina 2012-09-14 09:06:41 UTC

It could be fun with Papillon on this site, but as Carol pointed out as well as myself, this forum has been going for about 18 months, not as you said 6/7 years.
Again another mistake surely was the word "on"
Which if read as written;I was in fact saying that you did not know Jim Taylor, but could be your loss,as he is a great guy to have on your side when you need answers to things,in that he invariably has the correct answers, which could of been prooved by the amount of "Thanks" he had in the past on La Marina Forum

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-14 09:25:25 UTC

I had a similar experience on THAT forum. I dared to express an opinion that was not what was wanted and was pilloried and threatened by people so just stay away from it now. Anyway this is a far better forum.

Commented Moocher in La Marina 2012-09-14 09:27:51 UTC

I am not trying to make a point Alan and have said that this website has been going for 6/7 years

It does not make much difference. As for Jim I will be looking out for him.

As for the other forum does not seem like many people are using it or like it with this Jan person around.

It is interesting to know that I am not the only one that has been threatened, and this is on a site that people say is just there to help where as this one is not.

Commented Papillon in La Marina 2012-09-14 09:36:49 UTC

With reference to the age of the forum. This all started off in about 2005 when it was called Quesada/forum, then nearly two years ago we came into contact with the owner Steve and we started the La Marina section. We aimed it at Free Speach and expression, and in particular we wanted to give local businesses the opportunity to take part on the forum and to be able to advertise Free with links of their business up here. This, we feel, helps all sides. Live and let live is what we thought and it has certainly worked. We still experience Over 1000 hits per day which can't be bad.

The other thing I would like to emphasize is that when we first started one of my personal points of view was that I used to get very irritated at reading in one of the local papers an Event that I would love to have gone to, but of course, that was always old news, and we have tried to encourage the local Bars, restaurants and the Town Hall to keep us all informed before the event and not after. Hope some of you agree

Commented Ian in La Marina 2012-09-14 09:46:43 UTC

I think that what you read was that possibly The Spanish Life had been going for a few years,It may well of been I dont know,My only interest is the La marina part of Spanish Life.
as for the other forum,it is like chalk and cheese, they have completely different outlooks,I find the La Marina Forum more informative, but the Spanish Life is much more fun.I have had my fair share of spats on this forum, some I win some I lose,But I always stick to my gut feelings, until I make a mistake,or someone convinces me that I am wrong, when this happens I always offer a sinbcere apology, how it is taken i dont know,
I am sure we will be on opposing sides on certain subjects on this forum but life would be boring without having disagreements.
But on saying that I will always read the La Marina Forum, for the information I can receive

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-14 09:50:38 UTC

I agree with your words Allan and look forward to many a chat on the forum in the future.

Commented Papillon in La Marina 2012-09-14 11:04:06 UTC

I have read your postings/rants on the "other forum" and you do seem to be put out with the way/rules that it has, you also don't seem to ingratiate yourself to other posters or there comments, just an observation as good manners and forum etiquette do go along way as to what sort of response you get as seems to be borne out by other posters on here and other forums

Happy posting

Commented 2nd Casa in La Marina 2012-09-14 14:22:13 UTC

Your point is what?
I asked why you could not post a link and got a good answer and then some one told me to F-Off for asking, to dare question this Land Lady person, and you go on about good manners what about Jim Taylor or did you not read all the thread

I did read it all and I think the point I was making is clear maybe another poster would like to see if they can see it also Jim Taylor seems to be a font of help and knowledge unlike what you appear to be!

Ps I think from your further
rantings/postings on the other forum just about sums you/it up

Commented 2nd Casa in La Marina 2012-09-14 16:52:03 UTC

I think that you and some of the others have been living in Spain a bit to long and you have lost touch with the real world.

I asked a question of the Land Lady other wise know as God on her website, she answered and I was happy, but your man Taylor did not like the fact that I had question his God ( I think we have the same problem at the moment on the world stage, with the yanks have a go at someone else's God) So he told me to F Off, now if he had done this face to face I would have reacted in a different way, but he used the internet so I hit out with words.
As for what I said later, watch this space.

Commented Papillon in La Marina 2012-09-14 20:28:20 UTC

Are you the owner of this site according to the other forum/site you are linked by your Ip address/ computer
As for living Spain in too long and being out of touch with the real world I dont think so, but there again if you are one and the same poster/owner why try to antagonise others ?

Commented 2nd Casa in La Marina 2012-09-15 13:38:19 UTC

(Famous old saying, that rings so true today)

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-16 08:13:34 UTC

Would like to read all sides to this fiasco its getting more like forum gate every day as the "other side" say they can now prove that its come from the same source/person to cause out right grief with both sides having there loyal supporters but the facts will speak for themselves
THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE but will we ever get to know as we are just part of the long game

Commented 2nd Casa in La Marina 2012-09-17 11:38:22 UTC

I think the best way to find out the in and outs of this debate,is to carefully read both forums with an open mind, you should then come to a conclusion, that either one or both forums acted in a way that could be deemed as improper,or it may be just a misunderstanding on somebodies part,

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-17 16:51:06 UTC

I liked your first comment Alan before you edited it, it was more to the point and probably more correct. I think this comment is abit watered down.

Commented Andi in La Marina 2012-09-17 16:53:06 UTC

Yep I did water it down, tried to not sway people into thinking one way or the other.
But I have made my judgement, but may be persuaded it if more is learned

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-17 17:02:45 UTC

I've read the other comments on the forum an to be honest I do not understand it one bit. All I know is the lady called landlady or Jan is accusing this guy steve who owns this forum of some sorts of corruption or trying to dis credit that forum or take it down. I tried clicking on the pictures landlady put up but it wouldn't let me view

Commented Andi in La Marina 2012-09-17 17:06:01 UTC

I have never regarded it as being a them and us situation as I have used both and many other forums to find out what I need, but La Marina Forum seems to be having a direct attack not just on the owner of this site but us the members and the way we add post to the site and what we say. I think its a case of the kettle here as I only read hateful comments on the forum site and nothing on this one.

Commented Daves Homes in Rojales 2012-09-17 17:15:57 UTC

I enlarged the picturesbut not knowing, what I was looking at it was something printed, that I gather any body technically minded would know what it meant. In my mind papillon whoever he may be, may be responsible for the bad feeling, only problem i see is why did he and steve and a couple of writers on the La Marina site seem to over react to things that were not of any significance.

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-17 17:19:59 UTC

Its hard to know I see that Steve does not post much on the site and leaves people to it, where as Land Lady comments on everything, but as she has said its her forum so she does what she wants. Maybe Steve will let us know his thoughts.

Commented Daves Homes in Rojales 2012-09-17 17:27:32 UTC

All forums have rules, some a lot more than others,As Carol said in a comment earlier only Swearing and bitchiness to other people on the forum are not allowed, although i think the non bitchiness wentout the window when Carol and Ian resigned.I am sure i remember during a really turbulent time on this forum comments were made that a few comments had been adjusted or worse. As for Landlady she insisted on no links where paid for adverts were in action.
These rules are easy to see before posting,so if you dont agree dont post.
If only Steve had confirmed or denied the accusation, they he was or wasnt acting as or with papillon in a game of something or the other,I really wouldnt of bothered even reading all the stuff that has come out since, and the more i see it the more,I see Landlady never lost her cool to any degree, but Steve and papillon both lost it big time,If it was contribed or not I dont know.that is why i said I would wait incase anything else came to light.
as Steve or Papillon havnt come back with anything that I have missed,I guess neither feel they have to explain anything

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-17 18:13:48 UTC

Sorry for the delay I was reading the post on La Marina Forum
It would be very easy to challenge the comments about who's site is better than the other, but I do not see the point. What seems to be important is who is who, they have a member that joined in 2008 and then over the last few days decided to post,( I heard that the Russians had sleepers after the war that were spies waiting to be told what to do) looks like they think this could be the same.
It has been stated that this site has only been going in La Marina for 18 month, which is true, so why would we join the other site so long ago if we were not even in business?
IP address are the same, well I have moved 3 times in the last 4 years so has my IP address, but I think I know enough about the internet to be able to change it if I was trying to post as different people.
My name has been used, how many people join a forum using their real name? Not me for one.
From my point of view some people are enjoying having a go at me and this site for their own reasons and I will be honest its not nice, I know that I can do nothing about it as I know the law that governs the internet. Yes it will be changed but not now.
I am not a member of the other site and have not posted on it but its members will think what they are told to.
P.S A personal note
I think that there are some very evil people posting and to have a go at my charity is very underhand, we at ASL will be deciding what is best to do.

Thanks for your frank answer Steve.
So here is a bit of frankness from me,I am a long standing member of La Marina Forum having made nearly 500 posts on that Forum,I am active on five forums both local and all costa Blanca ones,I go by different names on all of them,on La marina Forum I am Craven(Fulham Football Club Supporter)Yes a few posts answering papillon were mine.
Because of papillons attack on a well respected member on that forum,I answered papillons attack. it seemed from the first words papillon was attacking thecrules of the forum. The main thing is Jim didnt tell him to F*** Off,he used words in front with clearly said I would like to tell him(papillon).which is a subtle difference.Unfortunately it is one way to wind me up,if you are going to repeat something be accurate or you may give a very different version
(I have pulled up people on both forums for doing that on quite a few occasions and have been pulled up myself) papillon as you state joined LA marina forum in 2008,and his first recorded comment was the one that started all the trouble. Some comments made by me seem to have hit a raw nerve with you. They were not meant to wind you up,just an honest opinion of my thinking. If you feel you need me to give my reasons for anything I said just ask,you will receive an honest answer(my one main thing in life if you cant tell the truth dont say anything).
Other than that if i have really upset you or any other person on this forum, just give us the nod and i will leave it,until then i will keep on posting
I have just read the bit added on the end of your comment,I gather the comment about your charity was mine,I really am sorryif that was hurtful to you and i humbly apoligize,Before writing that piece I had spent nearly an hour trawling through past comments made on your forum,to find the comment you had made about your charity and your book, which i know you put on this site at some time I in fact remember going on the web page and reading about it.I did get annoyed, but a comment onv the forum called your set up a commercial one,i remember you said all profits go to the charity,I felt in your defence I had to let people know about the charity but I had no way of knowing where it was so rather silly I know, but I think i referred to it as in some counrtry somewhere on earth,as for the rest I was truthful the book bit was forgettable to me

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-17 19:12:29 UTC

Hi Alan
In no way have you upset me, and I would hate to lose you as a member of this site. I think that we are all open to attack on forums these days and I am no different than anyone else, and will not delete what is said as long as the line is not crossed
I am not happy with the comments made but I know that some of the other members have had the same sort of things said about them, but I think that it is important to let the comments stand as its what people think.

Commented Team ASL "A Spanish Life" in La Marina 2012-09-17 19:44:27 UTC

Thanks for the answer Steve.
I think the best thing for me is to wait and see what other comments are made about our chat and use that to decide if i should stay or go.

Commented Alan in La Marina 2012-09-17 20:05:55 UTC

I am another who does not post under their real name, owing to receiving abuse in the past on other forums.

I consider a forum a place to give/receive advice and exchange points of view without being abusive or sarcastic. If you are belittled on any forum you are hardly like to stay there! As most members do not get the opportunity to meet each other, I think that you have to make sure that what you type isn't ambiguous and is factual.
