Hi Karen,

My hubby bought mine for me while we were in the UK in May, they are definately cheaper back in the UK and you bring them as hand luggage.

Hi Karen I would agree with Linda to get one in the UK works out cheaper. The last one we got here in Spain had windows XP and cost us €90 to have it re-installed with the English version. Of course if you speak Spanish, no worries. There maybe some English companies selling laptops already installed with english versions, if there are Im sure they or someone on here will let you know soon.
Good luck with the move, I bet you are so excited!!

Hola again Karen, we treated ourselves to a flat screen TV from the Carrefor last year, it was a similar price to those in the UK and I think you would struggle to bring a TV with you lol.

I recently bought an Acer lap top locally in la Marina,it is a 4 gig cost including windows 7,and some security installed was 405 eurus(approx 360 pounds) have had no problems with it as yet. This should give you a rough guide on prices,
also converted to English text by the shop, but of course you must remember if it is new,and not a rebuild it will have a Spanish keyboard,I am not computer literate, but i had no problem in working out the differences

If you are not a speed typist and just plod along on the keyboard a Spanish keyboard is probably ok for you. BUT, if you are a speed typist like I am, I did not like it at all. Several of the main keys are in the wrong place - especially the @ sign and if you type as many e-mails as I do in the day you do not wan't to have to stop and think "how do you get the @ sign up" etc etc.

Carol
I understand exactly what you mean, but I had trouble finding the @ sign on an English keyboard,so doing the Spanish one is no different to me.
I find the hardest button is the letter `a``as I always tend to catch the block capital button as well which then gives me lines of capital letters that I have to erase and do again

Buy one in the UK before coming over - as if you go to Media Markt etc they are all in Spanish - and you dont want that - plus they are cheaper in the UK - much "!!!!! Unless you go to a UK based computer shop like Ibertech, but then still a little more expensive

Nikki: If you paid someone 90 Euros to have windows XP installed, someone ripped you off. InformaticaDirect down where Lidl and Mercadona is located have a max price for any repair of EUR 29,- in labour cost when reinstalling operating systems.

The reason why sometimes UK laptops are cheaper then Spanish is that computers sold in Spain by default comes with 2 years warranty whereas laptops sold in the UK only comes with 1 year warranty. And everyone knows that when the laptops DO go wrong its normally just AFTER they are 1 year old. So paying a bit more for a laptop AND get the extra security of an extended warranty is worth it. Even if shops sell laptops with UK keyboards the warranty they have to provide to the clients is a 2 year warranty because it is stipulated in the Spanish consumer laws that any product purchased / sold in the Kingdom of Spain comes with a 2 year warranty - UNLESS the manufacturer offers an additional warranty (extended warranty).
