NILO at LA BODEGA

Just heard that next Monday 29th of August,La Bodega on the Strip, opens its doors at 10 am for the first time for many months, and as a bonus a great guitarist and really nice guy Nilo will be playing there in the evening.
Nilo was a regular weekly attraction at the Phoenix until it closed down recently

La Marina

I would be very interested in knowing what kind of food will be on the menu and also what entertainment will be on throughout the week.

well it wasnt about jeff or political but John who owned Blue moon Computers behind La Bodega sold is business to Ibertech but when it came to signing over they found that they had been operating illegally with no Licence as had Dave at the La Bodega allegedly all the mail regarding this that should have been sent to John had been signed saying he new about it but john never saw the letters. thats why Ibertech are located in the Marco & Marco building

Thanks david, the bit about John and blue moon,I knew about.
You havnt really told me anything about Dave,Dave from La Bodega was a really nice guy and looked the perfect landlord,But it was not hard to guess that he was struggling to make a profit in the place,I gathered he just upped and went,I wqould be interested in knowing exactly which license he didnt have for the operation of a bar/restaurant.
You will also be surprised to know that jeff doesnt even get a mention,so the possibility is I could be told the truth this time.

Do not quote me but as far as I am aware (allegedly) the licence relates to the illegal build that ended up being the Pool Room for the La Bodega. If I remember rightly at one time this was an office for a air conditioning company and then turned into the pool room this was deemed illegal if so then everything on that plot of land was illegal this included the computer shop and La Bodega.

Hi david
Life has funny twists and turns.
I first started this thread, really to say that Nilo would be playing at La Bodega next Monday.I also mentioned that he used to play at tha Phoenix, the funny twist,is that John from blue moon was also a keen supporter of Nilo and would turn up each week and practically became part of the show,In fact for quite a long time him and Nilo practically became a double act which he and Nilo thouroughly enjoyed doing.
I wonder what the odds are on John Jagger(As Nilo called him)will turn up Monday to accompany Him,I personally doubt it,but if he does it will make for a great night

The side room to la bodega illegal ? I can remember it being part of the place back in t he days when Mary and Pedro had the place,as for when Dave,Tracey and family ran the place they gave it there best shot to make it work but but I heard there was just was not enough customers coming in to make the place a viable proposition

I'm still waiting to hear from anybody who knows what's on the menu. I have heard something about it being a hot rock cafe - is that the correct phraseology? I believe that means you cook your chops, steak etc yourself, BUT you cook it in salt. Is that Correct? If so, I can't go because I'm not allowed salt due to high blood pressure (it's not surprising running this forum) - only joking - most of you are lovely people up here.

Well 2nd casa cant comment on that as ive only been here 9 years but that doesnt mean that it was not illegal in 2000
I must say though Alan yes John Blue Moon Computers supported every live act especially Bands the likes of Reckless and Plan B just to name 2 and i do hope it is all legal and they have live acts especially Rock Bands would be another good venue to Carol not bothered how the food is cooked as long as it is good and reasonably priced.

Carol,I gather the food content doesnt seem to be anything special,I gather steak and burgers, and some German foods are on the menu, anything else I wont know until i go on monday.

I will apoligise, after telling you that Nilo was appearing at la bodega,in fact the information I was given was incorrect.,
In fact it was PlanB that were on last night. The bass guitarist/singer is also a Cuban.Apart from this anyone that went would of seen a Spanish guy playing a rythme guitar, absolutely superbly,Bass guitarist also very good,
Keyboard great bit of honky tonk ,and a instrument i have never seen before called a dixie box,the sounds that come out of a box with a hole in the back and a guy sitting on it hitting the front of it are unbelievable. An all round great performance,by these four .Place was packed with people appreciatiing this group. The menu looked disappointing, very restricted in range and nothing special about price.
La Bodega has been updated and looks the better for it change around Obviously should be a hit if they have more nights like this.
As a person who was expecting Nilo and got PlanB,It was a great night.,Planning to see Nilo at O´Neills in Sept.

Thank you for the update Alan. Do you know if they are going to have regular entertainment ie did you see a list of artists that are going to appear in the coming weeks?
Menu - When you say restricted, what do you mean? Are they doing basic food like eggs sausage & chips, burgers etc?

I like the sound of a bit of *honky tonk*

They appear to have three starters
soup etc and four main Steak in a sauce, burger ,trout,a skewer of possibly German meat no mention on menu of what vegatables or salads to go with each meat, although dishes coming out had chips and salads on.
I think that yesterday may of been a trial for live entertainment,if so it should be introduced soon,as last nights group really put a lot of work in.Through the evening each member did a solo piece, all were really great, and the keyboard solo was the honky tonk piece.

Good or bad. Im sure la Bodega is not as bad as El Mirador - the "greek" restaurant up on the urb. That was the biggest disappointment ever. Aioli was the "green" crap you get in boxes you buy in Lidl or Mercadona, the pasta-dishes was horrible and on top of everything the pasta took 35 minutes to do. how can it take 35 minutes to boil pasta. Unless of course you jumped in a helicopter to get it from italy first... NOT a place to enjoy a meal in...

Just out of interest we paid a quick visit yesterday to La Bodega. It is interesting to note it is now being run and managed again by Englebert who actually purchased the premises some 22 years ago. He has once again rolled up his sleeves and is back in action, determined to build the venue back up. As a start there is regular entertainment every Monday night. This should be a success as many bars close on a Monday evening, apparently last week a lot of these owners from other bars came in plus there were quite a few of the local entertains seen in the audience.
Inside a part of the wall between the two sections has been removed making the stage visible to all in the venue.
