Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been speaking about Manchester United's transfer plans and the club's strategy in the market, with the Red Devils' new co-owner looking to better the Glazers
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has outlined Manchester United’s new transfer approach after slamming the Glazers’ previous strategy.
The INEOS chief has made it clear he wants to avoid splashing out huge sums on just a few "great players". Instead, he's keen to get the right people in place behind the scenes before focusing on player recruitment.
Sir Dave Brailsford has already been appointed as his representative in Manchester. The club has also named Omar Berrada as its new chief executive. Currently at Manchester City, Berrada is set to take up his new role in the summer. Newcastle United's Dan Ashworth is also reportedly close to becoming the sporting director.

Talks are still ongoing with Newcastle over compensation, but it's widely expected that Ashworth will complete his move soon. This is the approach Ratcliffe wants United to adopt as he criticised the club's strategy under the Glazers, reports the Mirror.
When asked about signing players like Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham on The Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast, Ratcliffe said: "He's a great footballer. But it's not where our focus is. The solution is not to spend a lot of money on a couple of great players. They've done that if you look at the last 10 years.
"The first thing we need to do is get the right people in the right boxes in the organising of the club. Then make can get recruitment right. It's such a vital part of a football club today, getting recruitment right. Which is finding new players.

Ratcliffe's plan for the future is backed by current boss Erik ten Hag. Since starting at the club, the Dutch gaffer has splurged over £400million on new players, but he hinted recently that this big spend might slow down.
