Feed the needy

I know i keep on harping on about this subject.
But i have just read in one of the free newspapers that 40%,of the unemployed in the Alicante Province do not receive any financial support from the state.
I am sure that some of these unfortunate people may be our neighbours,and that where possible we would like to make the lives of these unfortunate ones,just a little bit easier if they could.
Our local Councillor and his staff had what seemed to me a great idea of supplying these people with a cheap meal each day,unfortunately,this has hit problems. I was wondering what the latest information on this idea is,also has anybody got any ideas of what we can do to help these unfortunate people,and how to actually get the ball rolling

Alan could you give abig more info on what you said about, this has hit problems regarding the council and food for needy. Please.

I will tell you what I learned from Jeff when I went to see him,nearly two weeks ago.
If you remember around Christmas time Jeff said he wanted to help the local people who had hit on hard times due to the unemployment of local people.he was in fact keen on opening the Social centre to give these people at leastv one decent meal a day at a very cheap rate,with the help of volunteers and gifts of food and cash etc.
Unfortunately he told me the kitchen in the social Centre was in a poor state and would need a lot of money to be spent to bring it up to spec.he was hoping to arrange a meeting ,between the council,the Red cross,the Church and Others to find a way forward,if possible.
I left him with my details to contact me if their was anything that i could do,As yet I have not heard from him.
I was hoping he may put something on this Forum so that we could all be informed,It mat be that nothing substancial can be done to help these people on a regular basis.
In fact it wasnt until i read a thread on this forum that Impact was collecting food which would in turn be taken to the council offices to be distributed,that the food giving was still ongoing,i thought it stopped with the pre Christmas one.
I still think it is very important to keep these ideas fresh in peoples minds,otherwise they will be forgotten and nothing will happen.
I am also a believer,that a parent of young children will do anything to feed their off spring,even down to some of them getting involved in petty theft and begging etc. to keep their children fed(I know that in the position some of them are in i would consider doing the same)So in the long run if we can help in any way,it may even keep the crime rate down.
Personnally i am willing to give my time and and a certain amount of cash to help these people at this time,I am also sure that when they are self supporting they will repay us by helping others in need

Alan, you harp on about it all you like, keep it fresh in people's minds or it will get pushed under the carpet. Times are hard here and I confess to moaning about this on a regular basis, however luckily I have never been in a situation where I havent had any food and I pray to god I never am.
As you say it would be good to hear from Jeff what is happening with regard to the kitchen at the social centre. In the meantime I wonder if maybe someone who has a resturant/bar that is only open at night, could not volunteer the use of their kitchen for a few hours a day. So long as the staff and Food were provided Im sure this could work some how. (We would definatly love to help but sadly our kitchen is not much bigger than a cupboard!)Its so sad that in this day and age we are having this conversation.
