Wi-fi near La Marquesa Golf clubhouse – Broadband Costa Blanca?

Does anyone near La Marquesa Golf clubhouse in Quesada have experience of Broadband Costa Blanca’s 1MB service for 9.95 Euros pm please?

I know this is not a good area for signals so would be grateful for any comments before I commit to 144 Euros for connection plus a wi-fi router.

Thanks

Quesada

If you contact them they will come to your house and do a signal test, if they get a signal, they will install there and then, if not then they will not install. Usually free if they cant get a signal. They have been to me and no luck. If you can see the block of flats next to Harry's Bar, you are likely to get signal. You are right about poor signals though, I've had quite a few out and no luck with any of them, still waiting for someone to realise that a mast is required somewhere near the Recorral Park. (If anyone else is reading this!!!)

Thanks Anita. I'll arrange for them to come in May when we are next there.

Telefonica/ Movistar have an obligation to bring a means of communication to your location.
Cable or wireless try them.

Telefonica/Moviestar do not provide internet without the use of a landline. They are quite expensive compared to other companies who can provide it all, but if you are prepared to haggle for a deal you might get somewhere. I had the landline in my rented house suspended as it was very expensive. With all my contacts on Skype, the landline is of no real use, just an unwanted expense.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to go to the expense of a landline as the villa is only occupied for roughly half the year with ourselves and rental guests. It has been suggested to me that Ole provide a good service but it is rather too costly. I just need a reasonable speed to enable me to use email and surf the web so I am hoping Broadband Costa Blanca's 1Mbps service will suit, but the experience of anyone near La Marquesa clubhouse would be reassuring, please, before committing to the 144 Euro installation cost for broadband and wi-fi.

Telefonica/Moviestar will utilize all available methods to connect you to the infrastructure.
They have wired, wireless/ laser, satellite access covering at least 90% of the country.
I imagine the problems associated with the areas mentioned are related to the local terrain.
Telefonica will have compensated for the environment using base stations fed via cable or wireless.
If you live within a community I can advise you/ your president on how you can benefit from 8-10MB for a fraction of the cost of “other companies who can provide it all”.

have you tried dvblab?

I have tried dvblab, without any luck. They were going to put up a mast to service this area, but it didn't happen. A couple of companies have come back saying there is a new mast gone up, still nothing though.

I am in Quesada and have internet and phone with telecablesantapola. I have been very happy with the service and price - 22 euros a month for both and it can be turned on and off as required.

Hi Tina, what part of Quesada do you live and do you know where the mast is that you recieve your signal? My problem is all signals available to me are from the flats by Harry's Bar, and I can't see it without a 3 meter pole which is ok for TV but useless for internet.

I am a structured cabling engineer, with over 25 years experience in the industry.
If you imagine a lighthouse, the light beam shining out. This is how these type of signals are broadcast, hence the 3m pole to lift the receiver up into the beam.
I have read on this and other forums ”so & so are good, their engineers fixed mine in X amount of days/ hours”. Fixed what? there’s no moving parts, what broke?
Equipment failure or signal loss will be the problem.
Equipment failure will result in no signal whatsoever. Signal loss will range from no signal to an intermittent signal (slow loading of web pages, echo, break up of phone connection etc.)
Most problems will be signal related. An antenna installed in winter can be compromised by something as simple a summer foliage on a adjacent tree in summer.
A new competitor could have set up in the area with a stronger signal blocking your providers signal
New construction will block/ deflect signal
22 Euro per month, if you live in a community I can install a network for multiple users where you will benefit from a much faster connection speed & for a much reduced monthly outgoing. eg 4 users 6 Euro each per month for up to 10 MB.

That is very interesting, but few questions please: What is the minimum number of community users required to set this up and, if this is a cabled service, is there an installation charge and a monthly rental charge in addition to the example charge you give? What is the name of your company please?
Thanks

Hi Nigma

There is no minimum amount of users, but the more the merrier/ cheaper.
This is a cable/ hard-wired solution, a one-off installation fee covers all materials & labour.
Due to the varying quality of construction within the communities in the local area I do not expect any monetary commitment from the customer until the job is complete & proven to work within their home.
The only monthly cost associated after installation is between the community & the ISP.
Sorry for being so vague but with the plethora of TV, Air Con & pool “professionals” in the area I'm sure there are also a multitude of data & comms engineers awaiting the next opportunity.

If you require a site visit, have any questions regarding legalities or require me to meet with you, your committee members/ administrator please do not hesitate to contact me at [email protected]

Hi QPRW12
I think this is going to be too expensive as most of the owners in the community probably have satisfactory broadband arrangements already but I will drop you an email.
Thanks

QPRW12,
As a Air Con "professional" engineer, may I ask what "professional" company you represent?

Commented marko in Quesada 2013-03-13 21:23:19 UTC

I represent myself & you?

Commented QPRW12 in Almoradi 2013-03-13 22:25:00 UTC

Select Air Conditioning, based in Quesada and registered since 2004 and never once found the need to criticize other companies, including my direct competition.
