FAREWELL TO MR LA MARINA

Bowls Report for week Commencing 2nd June 2013

This week started well with a Sunday Captain V Vice Captain game for the Jubilee Trophy sponsored by San Fulgencio town hall, the game went well with the Captains side coming out on top by the narrowest of margins 2 Points, at this point i have to apologize to the following Linda Vincent, Reg Jackson and Martin Webb for announcing them the winners only to be told i had made a mistake and had to ask for the Gold Medals back (sorry guys) then present to the actual winners Mo Barker, Margaret McLaughlin, Skip Graham Norris, the Silver medal winners were Hilary Cronk, Jack Chorlton Skip Jim Donnelly well done to you all.

Sadly just after the game we were given the very bad news that our President Mr Phil Morris had passed away peacefully in hospital. Phil as i am sure most of you know was Mr La Marina and was very well known on the bowling circuit, the social events will never be the same again without Phil dressed in a oversized fur coat ( along with Rex) doing their rendition of Flanagan and Allens Underneath the Arches, the words re written about La Marina, our thoughts and prayers go out to Joan and the family.

The bowls this week were understandably a bit flat and the results reflected this ( no excuses given) on Monday the pilots were well beaten at home by a very good Vistabella team going down 10 points to 4, the Navigators doing a little better but still losing 9 points to 5 away at La Siesta.

Tuesday evening saw the first 20/20 games played we started badly going down 16 points to 2 to La Siesta must do better if future weeks.

Wednesday our Kings Cup side had a good 10 to 2 win against Quesada Tigers a result that puts the team in 2nd place in the league.

Friday the Pilots made the trip to Horadada and came away with a creditable 8 to 6 win so with a bit of luck that will move us up the league table.

The Navigators were at home to top of the league Vistabell Fairways unfortunate going down to a 4 points to 10 defeat a result that further cements Vistabella`s title ambitions.
