A really good night so pleased Pauline won the Special Recognition Award it was well deserved.

The Local Heroes Award Ceremony last night was a truly amazing experience. Pauline Prior won the Special Recognition Award for her Charity work this year and the many years beforehand when she has tirelessly raised money for various causes. Her Special Achievement this year was in setting up, registering and establishing the AAN charity which exists solely to raise money to buy food for the needy in the local area.
As well as running the shop and organising fund raising events Pauline and her band of shoppers visit a local supermarket once a month and purchase 1,000 euro worth of food which is distributed through the Town Hall and Social Services to the needy in the area. With at least 50 families to feed that equates to 20 euro worth of food per family so funds are always urgently required.
Following many negative comments on here about La Marina, last night proved that we have a wealth of strong positive people in the area and hopefully these awards will foster a feeling of pride in the community.
Along with Pauline we had Mary from the Debra Charity, a Sports Hero, an outstanding school pupil, a brave teenager, two amazing cancer survivors, neighbour of the year, parent of the year and an outstanding teacher. Be proud of your town and be proud it contains people like Pauline who do not stand idly buy and watch children go without food.
